Has anyone here run this specific combo in their early CJ5? I will be swapping to wagoneer axles and have a full size bronco for the engine and transmission. will be sourcing a Dana 300 locally on CL. Is this combo too long to run with the 3" Novak adapter kit?

I plan on moving the spring mounts back about 4" to 6" as well. about as far back as i can push 35s without comp cutting the rear.

I would think that would be too long... I don't have an extra 3 inches in my drivetrain... I would be surprised if you could move the rear axle back 4-6inches as well.

Yep , I agree with Jon..............if you're dead set on that combo........moving everything out in both directions is what's needed.........find a front sheetmetal clip / Hood & fenders off of a 73 or later CJ......you'll get an extra 3+inches forward to play with and of course you'll have to extend your frame rails , lengthen the wheelbase , move your steering and modify at least 1 driveline.

I'd say it would come down to how much lift you are expecting to get out of it, and compoundly, how much droop you will expect your rear axle to have. These are ultimately what will suffer as you lose real estate between your t-case and rear. The less room/more lift you have, the more those numbers become exponentially unrealistic.

I've run a j-truck T-18 (super-long bellhousing) with a D18 behind a 225 in a stock-length ECJ5, which is probably a hair longer than what you're looking at, and my rear driveshaft was about 11" IIRC. I never had an issue because I was only running about an inch of lift. Driveshaft angle was in 'good' status. But as the right rear tire would drop in a hole, that angle got crazy real quick.

I'm running a T-18/D20 in my stock wheelbase 3B on a YJ spring-over, and the rear driveshaft angle is unpleasant, but it works. I did have to put a limiting strap at the pinion to prevent the u-joints from overflexing when airborne.

Do you have an overall length estimate from bellhousing/engine mating surface to rear output? Maybe you could get real-world comparisons with some numbers.

FWIW, my D300 measures 11 9/16" from mounting face to end of yoke.

If I remember correctly, there were two different D300 tail housings available in different years - short and long. This is the long one.

It's possible but you'd have to measure a ton of things.

    1. Don't raise the power train. Keep it near stock heights.
    2. You could remove the stock radiator mount/tunnel and make something custom to put the radiator up at the grill. This would save you 5" or so.

    3. Why not use a Dana 20? The adapter is shorter I believe

    75 CJ6 not really a "build"
I have a picture of a T19 with a Scout Dana 300 in the link above if you scroll down to post # 23.

Also, a pretty big write up about them here:

I can measure mine if you'd like.
