Jon - As you may already know...pertronix and HEI are NOT the same. Both are nice upgrades to stock ignition system... do a little research on site and see if one of them might be what you like. I don't really know what is available for the 198 vs 225. I run pertronix in my 225 with a hotter coil (although the coil is optional) - gives maintenance free, consitent spark without having to maintain points, and it never degrades as its induction style trigger (requires a delco distributor and not a prestolite - not sure how it would work in 198). I have not run HEI, but many on here say its a great upgrade - should give consistent spark as well, and I think hotter - so a bit more performance if you upgrade/gap plugs etc to match. For most 225s, the HEI requires just a bit of grinding on the intake to fit - not sure about the 198.

I have put two odd-fire HEI distributors into 198 engines without any trouble.

Follow up question...I know probably a stupid one but...

Can I still use the 4barrel alum offy intake with the 2g with an adapter until I am ready to upgrade the carb?

Although not required I do like a little bling instead of a paint peeling iron intake.

I see no reason why the 2bbl wouldn't work on the Offy manifold with an appropiate adapter.

Thanks. I was thinking that too just don’t know if they even make the correct adapters.

I would also hate to replace the intake to just have it not work.

Making an adapter from aluminum is not difficult. Easy if you have a die grinder and drill press. Get a burr for aluminum - the burrs for steel will clog right away.

Another possibility is to buy a 4V to 2V Holley pattern and then a 2V Holley to 2V Rochester adapter. You'll end up spending a bunch of money on adapters that you will eventually discard though ...

The 2 bbl to 4 bbl adapters I have seen have both the Holly and Rochester bolt patterns so only one adapter needed. However, they are open inside, and if your Offy intake is a four hole like mine, well let's just say it will work but not very well.
My opinion, run the stock intake with the stock carb, and change it when you go to a 4 bbl carb. The Dauntless is not hard to change the intake on, you don't even have to remove the dist or valve covers.

Yeah. Not sure how or if an adapter would work with the holes
