I think it might be time to give up the willys. My truck is becoming unreliable so in order to finance an upgrade I figure i'll have to sell my 48 2A and my unreliable truck. I need advice in 2 areas.

1)Where to list it to get the most exposure. Of course on this site, but where else?

2)How to set a fair price. I have about $4500 into it from the complere rebuild/modify last summer. I still don't know what it is 'really' worth.

Anything is helpfull. Here is a brief description:

    1948 cj2a
bodywork to take out dings and dents
    fresh coat of orange paint
    225 Dauntless
    saginaw steering box
    HEI Dist.
new master cyl. and brake lines and 11" drums
    Roll Cage
    Bikini Top
    Storage seat in rear
    etc..

Thanks again for all your help

    Dan

Since you are in Colorado (assuming your profile is right) put it on Colorado4x4.org.

I have purchased several over the past couple years, and have a few still. :p

Colorado 4x4 .org is a good place to list local ones. There are several out there now that I know of.

I see a lot of overpriced units advertised (got one at the Safeway here now for $4300). If you want to e-mail me some pics at warloch001@adelphia.net I will see what you have to help set a fair price. Focus on the mods and body - you know the places that get cancer (hat channels, tool box, front step, etc) and the mods you did. I will also circulate it among the folks I know to see if anyone might be interested.

The problem with the flatties is the market goes up and down a lot. It really depends on if the right crowd is looking for one at the moment.

A method I have used to sell a couple of houses and a jeep is to get a web site and put the description and ads on the web site.

Then, if you advertise it in the paper, put in the el cheapo ad and in the ad refer them to the web site, It beats answering the same question umpteen times and keeps the tire kickers from calling and bothering you.

They simply access the web site and get your phone number from there after they've seen it in detail. Tire kickers see it and come up with reasons why it is too much and they don't call or come out.

Real buyers see it; get excited, and are halfway or more towards buying before they even contact you.

I sold a house in Kentucky to a guy in Missouri. He negotiated price over the phone and essentially bought it over the internet based on what he saw in pictures. Naturally he wanted to come out to see if what he saw really existed.

He came, it was as advertised, he gave me earnest money, and closed at the end of August.
