I found two seats for 350$ at The House of Jeep? aka Somar Motor? Anyone heard of them? I can't get anyone on the phone, chat or email. I like the seats they look original and a good price but wary of forking over money to someone I can't get a hold of. Anyone familiar with them? s-l1600.jpg

I've never heard of that site, and it looks like they're even out of the Orlando, Fl area. I looked up those seats (#20025.01) and another pair that are similar (#20025.15) for the same price. No brand names are listed, but the part numbers suggest Omix/Ida and Rugged Ridge which are sometimes of suspect quality.
The latter part number shows a photo of the under side with foam and some springs, but I don't know the aftermarket seats well enough to positivly identify them.

Thank you. Looks like a bait and switch to me using that photo above. After thinking it to death and searching the past few days going to take Beach66bum's advice and go with Bestop. I called Morris 4x4 and they said they will bolt right up to the brackets I have. Might not be the most original looking but looks like it will give me the best option on gaining space. Thanks for everyone's input. I look forward to harassing yall some more in the future.

Well this whole time I thought this was a 71 until I ran across the very informative VIN thread on here. See something wrong here? Do I need to redo my research?!? Holy crap... vin1.jpg

That's an early production '72 model year if I'm not mistaken. What motor is in the Jeep and what do the fenders look like?

    You have a 72 CJ
Shouldn't make any difference regarding the seats you just ordered.

One thing to be aware of, the drivers seating position on the 72 and up jeeps is different than on the 71 and older ones. If you are looking for replacement seat mounting brackets they are different. The design and appearance is the same, but the seat is positioned closer to the outer edge of the body on your Jeep versus the older ones.

NB - only on the driver's side. The passenger brackets and position are the same. The seat latch on the passenger side is different. There is n eye bolt and a hook on the back of the seat. I will get a pic this weekend if needed.

You lucked out! You should be in the Intermediate forum. The '72-75 models are all of the same generation. Early-Intermediate-Late, '55-71 - '72-75 - '76-86.

The eye bolt is missing here (I had one in my junk box though); normally it screws into the floor and the latch on the back of the seat has a hook that goes into the eye.

Not much better - the sun washes out the area we are interested in.

No need to apologize! I'd guess '71 production ended in July or thereabouts, since Toledo needed time to change the tooling for the big changes in the '72 model. September '71 is definitely in the production for the 1972 model year.

Cool looking Jeep - I like the rocker guards.

Ah ok. So the September 71 is accurate then. Thanks for the info. And I think it looks pretty cool as well, though I can't take credit for any upgrades. Not yet anyway.
