I installed the new vacuum lines to the heater controls. The placebo heater works pretty well. It is 39 out now and I just returned from a ride. Plenty warm for this climate. I can see that more fan volume would certainly be an improvement but I'm happy with the results.
View underneath the dash. Not much to see. The ash tray is in the way. Defroster hose is gone.

Project creep is alive and well.
    I replaced a radiator cap.
The pressure made the water pump and radiator leak.
Broke a bolt off in the head while replacing the thermostat
    Radiator fell apart while disassembling.
Steel nipple in brass fitting for the heater core wouldn't come apart.

It's all apart so really I should change the belt while in there.
I really should change the 60 year old alternator to a delco....(I'll be sorry but not this time.)
    Painted the new water pump,
    Painted the fan while out.

SO......It's all together except for the radiator. That is a factory 6 blade fan if it matters.

So where's the radiator? Still looking.....

Measuring for radiator cap clearance. When the hood went down it pushed the tongue depressor down giving me an approximate distance for the max height of the cap. It actually worked. :bananatool:

I found that a radiator for an intermediate is nearly the same dimension as the 70-71 radiator for the F134. So I measured the grille and looked at the radiator on line. Then I measured again and looked at the radiator on line. Then I pulled the trigger. I purchased this.

So I wait and it finally gets here. As I pull it out of the box I discover the mounting flange is on the rear corner of the radiator and not on the front corner. :banghead:
I thought a little and decided to use a piece of 3" aluminum channel to bridge the gap between what I received and what I needed.

I ended up shopping for the universal radiator hoses and found some Gates that fit pretty good.

I took it for a spin this evening and it seemed to do ok. The temp seemed to be normal. It looks like I may build a shroud of some sort or move to an electric fan made for this radiator. And then I may do nothing if it does ok in the summer heat.

OK Mr. O. You shamed me into this. But I needed the kick in the butt.
Also installed the new tars and wheels.

    Mark,

Looking good! Any plans for marking it up from it's former military service? If so I'd vote for Strata Blue as an air base vehicle.

And on a sentimentally sad note the DJ is headed for Cerritos, California today. I hated that it sat outside all the time. Weather can take a toll on stuff parked outside. If you see it give the old guy a JEEP wave. (y)

I'm sorry to see this one go! I've really liked what you've done to bring it back into service. Nice work.

Thanks Donny. It arrived in CA today. Wouldn’t crank. Don’t know but think maybe the key might have been left on and drained the battery? Feel kinda bad but I can’t go fix it.

I enjoyed the minor fixes and then it was time to move on. I was storing it outside and that bothered me. I think the new owner will enjoy it.

I saw that. Contacted the owner to see if they had a photo of the Jeep. They had it on another Jeep and decided to go with a soft top. But it does look like my old one with the rear sliders. The slider design was a bit ugly but works great to ventilate the Jeep.

I received a call from the new owner. He is pretty excited. He said no worries on the starting. The DJ is better than he expected. "It's 50 years old and stuff will need to be fixed. I'm happy!"

I feel better that he is happy. Still curious on what went wrong. He said he may call me with questions so that's good. I'll get to watch someone else work. :bananatool:

I am just a few miles from Cerritos. I will keep an eye open for this around here. I liked following your work on this Jeep.

Yes. The original wheels and tires were in the sale ad so that's what I sold. I am thinking they might work on my M38.
