Does anyone know where the blue wire with the bigger connection terminal goes? Looks like it may ground to the dash but there does not seem to be a stud or a convenient screw to attach it to...?

    This thread may help.

    Wiper motor question?

Can't tell from your pic if the wire "blue wire with the bigger connection" is coming from the wipers or if it is coming in to the switch by itself.

If it is coming from the wipers with the two reds and one brown it may be the ground. Connected to the wiper cases and then to a ground under the dash. I grounded mine to the speedo mounting bolts.

If it is by itself, it may be the 12v input from the ignition switch. I hooked mine from the ACC on the switch thru a fuse and to the switch.

Thanks for including the thread. That thread covers the slightly later style wiper motor and switch (maybe 68-71?).

To clarify, the red striped wire at the bottom of the picture is the 12V feed to the ignition switch. The blueish wire I was referring to is the one toward the top of the picture. Yes, the dark blueish (may have originally been black) wire comes from the wiper motors and is wrapped in the electrical tape bundle with the red wires. Just wondering if there are any owners of a late 66 or 67 that have a picture of the original set up and where that wire is supposed to connect. Mine was original but now I can't remember how it was attached - been working on this 1966 Jeep for a couple years now.

Do you have the individual electric motors at the top of the windshield? If so can you post a picture of them?

Yes. They are not currently mounted however as the tux is in the paint shop...

If the wires in the bottom picture are the same wires (wire in question separate) in the switch picture then it certainly appears to be a ground wire. Aren't the terminals marked on the motor? Should be easy enough to verify if it is the ground.

Yes, I traced the wires up to the motors and it is definitely a ground. I will not have any problem finding a place to ground this - but still hoping someone can tell me how it was connected from the factory.

I'll bet when you reinstall the switch you'll find out where it connects at...that wire will only reach so far. :coffee::)

Don't have an original switch, so don't know how it was done from factory. My Jeep is a March '67 and don't suspect the wipers were added later, but who knows. What do you think the difference in wiper motors are? Mine are one speed. I have picked up a couple of 2 speed motors, but don't have them in this Jeep.

Also where is your switch located? Most I have researched are located on the far left side. Mine is actually in the middle of the dash above the shifters. Could be put in by an PO, but the hole looks factory, as it has the two flat sides to match the switch.

Mine are one speed as well and I am pretty sure they were installed from the factory. Here is a picture of the dash with the switch on the left hand side. I used to have an early 1966 Jeep that had vacuum wipers and a late 1966 Jeep that had electric wipers just like these. Interesting about the location of your switch - I suppose anything was possible back then.

My 1967 CJ5 was built in August of '66, and likewise has the one-speed electric wipers (and happens to be Prarie Gold like yours as well). I just finished installing a new wiper wiring harness that Carl Walck at Walck's 4WD made by using my original wiper harness as a pattern. The photo below shows the new harness grounded the same way as the original was, to a bolt through the bottom of the dash that's just to the left of the e-brake handle support.

If you're trying to be 100% accurate, the original grounding screw was a 10-24 x 1/2" Phillips pan-head with an internal-tooth lockwasher and a larger external-tooth lockwasher, with the ground wire ring terminal sandwiched in between the washers, and a star nut on the top side of the dash panel - but it was pretty rusty, so until I can get it cleaned up, I replaced it temporarily with what I had on hand:

I was starting wonder if that was how it was grounded... :D Thank you very much for responding and for posting the picture. The people on this site are great! Looks like your restoration turned out well.
