Thank you! It isn’t perfect but I think it did turn out really nice! Before some people see it I tell them I painted it myself with spray cans and I get eye rolls  Then when they actually see it they don’t believe me. So I show them all the cans lol! My Jeep as a whole isn’t perfect and I never want it to be, it’s a Jeep! I don’t want to make it so nice that I don’t ever want to drive it or run tree branches down the side of it out on the farm (y)

    Richie,
I was definitely learning as I went! This is how I did it; probably not correct but hey, too late now! :lol:Anyway, here is what I did. I touched up whatever spots I needed (dents and such) with regular automotive Bondo and topped that off with icing glazing putty. This stuff dries fast! I should note, throughout this whole process I was constantly wiping everything down with a wax and grease remover (dust from sanding, oil grease, everything!) I put down some self etching primer (in a can) then proceeded to shoot my base coat. (9) 12 oz spray cans gave 3 coats of blue inside and out. Waited for that to dry and wiped it down again to clean it. Should have tack clothed but oh well! I then shot my clear, which again, (9) cans gave me 3 coats. Once all of this dried and cured for a day or so, I thought I could just use a DA and Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound to clean it up. It helped and looked nice but I didn’t have a deep shine. So I wet sanded. 1500, 2000, and 2500. Again, this was my first time and I only burned through at one little spot on a ridge so I considered that a victory! Everything was now a nice even matte finish, smooth as can be. I did (2) passes on everything with my DA and wool pad with Meguiar’s Ultimate Compound (this stuff is awesome by the way!) followed up with one last pass with the same Compound but with a microfiber pad. I then used Meguiar’s Cleaning Wax with a microfiber applicator pad applied by hand. Let it all dry on then buffed it off by hand with nice clean microfiber towels. That’s it! I hope this helps! Again, definitely not pro but it works for me and my old Jeep!

Thank you! I had a lot of fun learning and just going for it! Patience is definitely the key to the entire thing. I have hours and hours and hours into this and it has paid off. Like I said before I give painters and body shop professionals major kudos! I’ll stick to pulling wire and running conduit in my day job (y)

Picked up a set of original Hall 701 taillights off eBay. These came off a Tux being parted out. They need a little work but I paid $20 for them so what do I have to lose? Anyone know where you can get replacement lenses? One is cracked. I’ll try again to read the lenses themselves but it’s very unclear/hard to read.[IMG]

The original Stimsonite 701 lens is really hard to come by, as well as expensive. They have the center "bullseye" as a hatched reflector. The Stimsonite 150a lenses are much more common and fit interchangably, and can sometimes be found for $5 or less. These have the center "bullseye" made as concentric circles. Your lights look to have the replacement 150 lenses.
Nice find on the chrome Hall lights!

Nice find! Do the have the mounting studs ? Chrome looks good, an SOS pad will really bring back the shine.

Thanks! The studs were hacked off about halfway during removal (I guess they were rusted on?) and the chrome is peeling in spots so I def think these will need some TLC to be brought back to life. But I will be able to say they are real Tux tailights! Heck like I said, they were a little over $20 so I’m happy (y)

Ya, you scored big time! There is still a set on eBay that have been on there for 3 years! Guy was asking $300 at one time! They are rusted thru and in such horrible condition, about the only thing good are the inner clear plastic cups. And only one has the correct red 701 lens

Thanks! Now I know what the Stimsonite lenses actually look like, I’ll try to find some. Is your Jeep all original? It is amazing! (y)

No. I have new Bestop seats, haven’t been able to find originals.
Long tube headers and new suspension.
    New dash
I’ve been getting it back as close to how it would have been originally . I like the factory look.
