Here is a '63 CJ5-- It did not originally come with the AC ducts you see on the right of the glove box and above the steering column. Originally, the speedo had a black rim.

Take a picture and circle which ones you are in question about. I have the restoration manual I can try to help you with it. Here is a pic of mine.

    Try here:
    http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?80863-Need-66-cj5-dash-pics-and-etc

    Per the FSM:
Left of the steering column is the hole for the vacuum line for the wipers.
Left of the speedo, the top one is the throttle.
Left of the speedo, bottom is the choke.
Right of the speedo, top is the lights.
Right of the speedo, bottom is the ignition.

The only other ones should be for the grab bar.

In my '60 the choke is in the upper-left hole, the throttle is the lower-left. upper right is the light switch, lower left (which is bigger) is the ignition switch.
That switch and hole to the left by the vacuum line for the wiper motors isn't there. (some one probably moved the light switch) The light and the cigar lighter don't belong at all and the radio is aftermarket. Mine did have some kinda do-hickie mounted where that light is that may have been an upright (barrel in the air) shotgun/rifle mount. I removed it because it wasn't all there.

Have you ever driven a CJ at night?

It probably had some sort of cover at one point to direct light down towards the dash.

I see similar set ups with covers being advertised for CJs and classic cars on Ebay as dash lights.

Looks like I may be bringing this post back from the dead! Just bought a 1963 CJ5, and it appears I have a ton of extra holes drilled through the dash. After reviewing above details and threads, including searching around myself, I still have quite a few questions. Can someone help me identify the 20 holes I have questions on? And yes, I said 20...

    Dash - Driver Side
1 - I assumed this was for the hand brake (like my 1952 M38), but above comment says this might be for vacuum lines might run from? I see no other spot in the cab for a hand brake, no any other 'clean' hole on this side of the dash.
2 - This looks like someone drilled this hole in afterwards, but there was nothing connected to it when purchased.
3 - Same as number 2, looks like it was drilled in afterwards. Assume something was mounted using both holes?

    Dash - Left 2.jpg

    Dash - Center
4 - Due to odd shape, assume this was drilled in afterwards for some unknown purpose
5 - This is a toggle switch with no wires connected. Per above post, this may be intended for Choke?
6 - First thought was for the dash light (which I believe you can see at the very bottom of the photo), but I have heard there are two dash lights, and there is only one hole like this. Could this be the throttle hole? not sure what that is anyway...
7 - Seems to clean for a self-drilled hole. Nothing was mounted when purchased
8 - Same-ish height as number 6. Thought it may be the second light hole with the metal sleeve removed?
9 - Currently houses my 'light' knob. Did turn on the gauge light, but nothing else turned on. Seems that this is correct.
10 - Currently a cigarette lighter. Do not see this hole in the above photo.
    11 - Seems not-original, don't think it is needed.
12 - Seems not original, don't think it is needed.

    Dash - Center 2.jpg

    Dash - Passenger
    13 - Doesn't seem original, don't think I need
    14 - Doesn't seem original, don't think I need
    15 - Doesn't seem original, don't think I need
    16 - Doesn't seem original, don't think I need
    17 - Doesn't seem original, don't think I need
    18 - Doesn't seem original, don't think I need
    19 - Doesn't seem original, don't think I need
    20 - Doesn't seem original, don't think I need
    Dash - Right 2.jpg

Overall, with all the additional holes and the apparent lack of factory holes (such as passenger grab handle), is it possible that this dash is not a 1963 CJ5 dash?

Side question, does anyone have a recommendation on a good, detailed manual? I have several for my M38, just curious what the preference is for these models.

Your dash is an early model, pre-64.
    #1 vacuum hose
#4 throttle cable (D shaped hole
#5 choke cable (D shaped hole)
    #9 headlight switch
(Unlabelled) ignition switch (round hole with peg to hold switch in proper position) label ring not original.
Any other holes are not original, except for perimeter bolt holes. Some later '50s dashes did not have the grab bar holes.
Your heater controls are pre-'64. The handbrake pull mounts under the dash. There should be a bolt hole on the lower ledge approximately below the vacuum hole hole.
