Sorry to offend, but I have taken 3 to the scrapyard in the past few years. The most I have paid was $500 for one I drove home, not wrecked. They are great vehicles, just not appreciated.

They are design well and poorly executed. I had the dash replace twice under warranty and it is still cracked...

    Does well off road... :D

Going more and more into this I am not feeling as bad to modify the rig and not be original. I will probably make a rectangular frame and work off of that. I thought Jeep frame but the Rover is abotu 6 inches wider than a Jeep. I am doing a list of things to get. I am thinking about doing later Rover axles because there are always discoverys in the local pullapart. This will give me disc brakes. I was thinknig GM 4.3L fuel inejcted V6, SM465 and an adapter for the original Rover Tcase. Looks like Wagoneer springs are same size for the rear, but I havnt identified a match for the front, but if i am doing the frame I can use just about anything. I know it is blasphemy but I dont have the funds to do for real. Plus one other obstacle that Rover people would like is the Rover is titled as a 1954, which it is not. Going through the paperwork it was listed as a 54 in Britain and it was first registered in 56. But the rig is an 88" and per VIN it was a 1958. So things have been changed around. But I have a good title but others might not like it and if someone wanted a true collectors, things will not be right. Any which way it will get on the road and offroad, It will be "saved" and not end up in a scrapyard.

After work today i decided it was time to start organizing my parts and finding a place for them so i can have some room.
Pulled the Hard top apart, now the neighbors will be happy.

Your Rover looks like an 86" wheelbase from the early style body panels and components. Have you measured the actual wheelbase to verify as an 88"?
On this one, I would not feel bad if it didn't go back a stock. There is so much needed, it would cost a fortune to bring it back original. Thats why I was suggesting a 1995 or so Discovery as a donor. Just shorten the frame in the center, graft on the original rear crossmember, and you have a foundation that is still Rover, but modern. Drop in the engine of your choice. By the way, the axle offsets are nearly identical between Jeep and Rover, so even transfer cases will adapt between them. A whole donor vehicle would get you all the steering, axles, brakes, etc. Finding a Disco with a manual R380 or LT77 is rare, but I have come across them in the U-Pull yards. That would be a bonus as the trans/TC in the Series are nothing to write home about ( at least those in a Series2).The U-Pulls up in Miami will sell just a chassis, and removing the body only takes about 1 1/2 hours if your not being careful about wiring and plumbing.
I have a bare Disco chassis in the yard if you want any dimensions. Think about this option!

It is an 88, I did measure the wheelbase.

After work today I got the front fenders off. Boy that was a fight. The fenders on a Rover are so much larger than a Jeep and getting one hand on the inside and one on the outside can be a pain. And then again i had to fight alot of rusty bolts. i ended up just hitting them with the torch and that helped alot.

Another pile of rust that fell off. i was hitting portions of the frame and it was just falling apart.

This is cool, the dipstick for the transmission

This weekend I am going to look at a Toyota truck frame that has been offered up to me before it goes to scrap. Might be something i could use and the price is right. :)

No. the motor is free, but i am going to not use it. Going to repower the rig after i get the new frame figured out.
If i started the motor, it would probably collapse the rest of the frame :(

Well this project is snowballing real fast. I was talking to an old co-worker today that saw pictures of the Rover and knew I was looking for a frame. Well he said he had an S10 frame at his house. I got to thinking, I asked if he also had a V6.. he said yes, it is still in the frame. And what he meant about that is. he has an entire 91 S10. Well he needs to get rid of it. I offered $100 and he accepted, the wife wants it gone. It hasnt been started in a while but does crank. The injectors or fuel pump relay are bad, hence why it is not running.

So I may not use the frame, I think the Toyota one may work better, but this is something i just had fall in my lap. I have to hide it somewhere else because I just dont have room at home yet, and i need to get the frame squared away before I can mess with the motor.

That's Rover poop. Valuable in some parts of the world...

    I had a '82, '84, and a '93 S-10. The '93 was the best... ;)

So Dan, learn me a little here, if you would. I was always under the assumption that these Rovers were all aluminum bodies. It appears there is as much steel as aluminum, if not more. It really appears that the front fenders are the only Al. at all. So, specifically, what's aluminum and what's steel on the body?

On my '95 Discovery the hood, fenders, doors, and most of the body's outside panels are aluminum. The top is steel. Lots of the interior is steel, floors, etc...
