That is probably true, some thing else to keep in mind as I work through all that. I am looking at Master Craft Baja RS reclining seats, I am going to have 4 point harness for seat belts.

Been on vacations and such so it has been a while and progress has slowed down. I have managed to do a few things, stripped the frame and sent for sand blasting and powder coating. Got it back and put the axles, motor trany etc back on the frame found a use Currie Antirock sway bar and installed it.

I have been prepping a paint both to prime the tub before doing much else. I spent last week getting supplies and equipment stock piled for the job. The plan is to prime the tub coat the fire wall, bottom of the passenger area inside and out with Lizard skin sound and heat coating then coat over that and the rest of the inside and bottom with bed liner. Then start putting all together, I mean transmission, transfer case control, dash, heat/ac unit, steering column, build roll cage, mount seats. Pretty much assemble the whole thing again and get it all figured out. THEN tear it all down again for painting the outside of the tub, top, fenders, hood, grill, body guards, rocker guards. Then put it all together AGAIN and wire and get it running.

How long do you all that will take?????

I started off hoping to just swap a new to me frame under my Jeep, figuring about a month or so. Ended up spending 2 1/2 years before I was done. I can relate to the "put it together, take it apart", repeat, repeat, repeat part. BTDT

    A little more done.

Empty dash, temp steering column, pedal assembly and windshield back on for now.

    Top back on for now.

Material for roll cage, seat mounting, spare tire carrier/rack.

Plans now are to remove all the glass for storage and begin to fab the roll cage and seat mounting.
And while doing that keep working on priming the other parts that still need it.

Got called back to work again in September so I haven't had much time. Changed to shorter weeks last week so I got a little more done. Installed Genright CJ roll cage stanchions. I had to drill a bunch of different holes, the new dash and the stanchions have different holes than the old dash and my door hinges do not use the same holes as the later CJs.

Are you tying those into the chassis below the body? I know your using a TJ chassis and you had installed some interesting metal pieces welded under the body along the edges. Do those get you any support to the cage front down tubes?

No I am not going tie them to the frame I plan on tying them to the rocker guard and the "B" pillar to the quarter panel guards for extra strength. But they do have a backing plate underneath the body. There will also be a "C" pillar as well that one may go to the frame.

The front tubes weld to the top of the bracket up near the windshield. They will be going towards the rear of the Jeep all the way to the back. Then cross bars and angle bars will be installed. I will post more pictures as I get the tubes bent and installed.

I am also contemplating using the Genright stanchions on my '74 CJ-6. How different are the holes from one another? In the pictures of an intermediate dash and a late model dash, 3 of the 4 holes "seem" to be a match, but can't get anyone to confirm. Then again....your Jeep is an earlier model, so I may have just asked you to compare apples to oranges.

The stanchions are designed for the 76 I think and later CJs with the factory door style hinges, they have matching holes to use those bolts for extra support. I had to drill holes for the floor plates and holes to match the newer dash panel. I was going to drill the dash holes any how because I am using an after market replacement dash because of the later model steering column I am going to use. My older Kelly Allsteel doors do not use the same kind of hinges the later jeeps use so those holes in the stanchion can be use to drill addition holes in the body but unless you put a backing plate on the out side (what the newer hinges act as) it is just body panel for strength nothing else. My old style hinges are much lighter material than the new ones so I decide not to rely on them although I did drill them and bolt through the stanchions any way. I am going to use rocker panels as well and they are 3/16 in thick and I will drill through them and bolt through them for backing. Other than just drilling the holes they fit nicely. One other thing I found was that they also have holes for the later model fold down windshield that the "hold up bracket" bolt to the windshield frame. These holes are not in my frame. On the 57 used a completely different latching system and windshield frame. The old wind shield frame does not line up flush with the dash and the stanchion would not sit flat on the dash. I had to make a 1/4 spacer to make them flush. I will take some more detailed pictures and post.

Some of the hole on the old dash lined up but not all so to use a new dash it fits but you have to drill more holes in either the body to make the new dash hole work or drill more holes in the new dash to fit the old body which would leave holes showing in the dash with no bolts or holes behind them so I am drilling the holes in the body to match the new dash.

Here are some more detailed pictures.

Outside the Jeep my old door hinge 1/4 in bolts Inside the Jeep you can see the holes for the new style hinge and the door strap keeper.
    [IMG] [IMG]

You can see the spacer for the difference in the windshield You can see one of the holes for the new windshield that are not in the old frame and the old latch system.
    [IMG] [IMG]

The floor plate they would fit different ways and the instructions show them different but I choose this way. The 4th bolt is in behind the stanchion and I can get it in and out.

This is the lower door hinge on an 83 Scrambler from the out side. From the inside you can see the backing plate for the lower hinge bolts and the bolts for the door keeper strap that the holes in the stanchion are for.

Hope this helps any one else thinking about using the Genright Stanchions on an older Jeep. I think they will be fine just a bit of adjusting needed.
