On intermediate jeep windshields, the wiper is outside. I bought a cover for the motor but I’m not sure how that seals the motor. Or does it? Is there a gasket or something?

    There is a gasket.
It has a gap at the bottom to vent or drain.

I have heard this also. But I removed mine a while back and found only a black dried out calking of some sort. I am sure it came from the factory because I have never had it off before..

Line 22.027-7a GASKET, windshield wiper motor cover
    74/75 model 80 Jeep PN 545 5897

A line of butyl caulk would work. My '75 had a gasket.
