    Hi all. First post
This is my 65 DJ6 Jeep. It was my late uncles and found its way to me. The story behind it is that it was purchased for the port managers vehicle in Churchill Manitoba. My uncle bought it when he worked for Manitoba hydro and had it shipped via train to southern Manitoba.
As far as I can tell it is in original condition. 34,000 miles.
I’ve got it running again, working on brakes etc.
I’m wondering if I keep it as an original or make it how I’d like, making sure not to destroy the future ability to make it original again. It has had work done in its past but nothing to make it modified as far as I can tell.
Serial starts with 86 ends in 68
    Left hand drive
    Hard top
    F134
    3 speed t90 2wd

    Neato.

Yes, a LHD DJ-6 is rare.
You sure you don't mean RHD?
Possible I can see a steering wheel on the passenger side, and there's a fuel filler on the passenger side.
I understood quite a few RHD DJs were made for rural mail service.
What do you want from the Jeep?

It’s Left hand drive. It has two under seat tanks.
glad you can see the pic. Now I know it works I’ll post some more.
I’m not looking for a lot out of it. My daily is a Tacoma and the jeep is a fun rig to teach my middle son how to drive a standard and how to maintain stuff. Today I’m going to pick up a centred d44 and d30 front with 410’s rims and tires. Disks up front with a 4” lift. Springs are too wide but It’s too good a deal to pass on.
that’s no guarantee it’ll make it to the DJ but an option.

You might check the transmission model. My neighbor across the street has a ‘65 DJ-5 and it has a T-96, a bit smaller than the T90.
Your Jeep looks to be pretty nice. Hard tops preserved them from a lot from rust.

    Welcome!
A 2wd 4cyl Jeep, even one as unusual and original as yours, doesn't have a lot of value. I say build it the way you want it and enjoy it!
    Just my 2 cents...

Thanks for the 2cents. I’m interested in a forest road/hunting/light off-road just for fun. I’ll keep my mods reversible if I do them.

I think he needs another jeep.
That one would be nice to putz around in however it would not be fun to actually use.

Big question is does it have a powr-lok in the rear axle?

A 4.3 and it's automatic would be a good powerplant. Put that in front of a D20 and call it a day with the D30 and centered 44.

Add a dual reservoir master cylinder, and power Saginaw steering regardless of engine choice.

Having trouble identifying this front axle. 27.5” between perches. 10 bolt cover like a Dana 30 and it has disks. Measures around 55-56” across to wheel mount.

It's a D30. There should be a nice big 30 on one of the front webs.

    How thick are the rotors?

I can definitely see this potentially snowballing into a lot of time and some $. So I ordered some 4x4.5 wheel spacers and a bikini top. I’m going to keep it real simple for this year.

Hey Fletch, welcome to the group. What an amazing find especially in our area!

I'm one of those crazies that likes to keep things original, especially one that's rare and with that kind of family history that you intend to keep going with your son...well done Dad :) I grew up driving my father's M38. It was a bit rough around the edges but the memories? Oh my. I wish he'd have kept it; it was a lot of fun just the way it was.

I also subscribe to, "It's your Jeep, make it the way you want it". I go this route when there's something drastically not original that I can't easily remedy (like the 231 in my CJ5, the original 225 long gone).

So I have to agree with the poster above, "You need another Jeep". The rest of THIS argument is that making a lot of big mods to change it is going to cost you a lot of time, effort and money, taking a lot away from the enjoyment of it.

I was thinking about that post about needing another Jeep. I agree. In time when one finds me. I ordered some wheel spacers and a bikini top for the dj. I have some new 215/75/15 at tires for it and will modify the cj7 roll bar to fit. Then we can a just enjoy it for what it is.
I’ll post some pics when we get the wheels on and the top sorted out.

What's the highest speed limit in your area?
    How hilly is the terrain?
    Urban or rural?
What fuel is available? How available is it?
How is parts availability for new, 90's, 60's era vehicles.
    How mechanically inclined are you?
What are you comfortable working on and with?

    It’s around 70 mph
The secondary roads 50 mph and can be hilly
    Rural
Good parts selection. I get on well with parts guys
I am mechanically inclined I have a tractor, old cat dozer, etc
Good to work on the jeep , dirt bikes, tractor, light stuff on dozer. Did a Cummins swap on a motorhome once. Had a scout 2 for a while. problem I have is time and organization. So I should start slow so I can enjoy it on the back roads and around the town. Same with my son.
