It seems crazy that parts for a Buick engine would be hard to find. However many parts show unavailable for a v6. It has been 55 years since one was built so maybe we have just been lucky to have the aftermarket support that we have seen. Thought I would do a 225 as I have a few L-heads and F-heads ready to go. Suddenly having trouble finding parts though.

A victim of its own popularity - all the remnant inventory is in demand?

I thought I scored a camshaft from Rock Auto and it showed up today... right box, right part #, wrong camshaft.
    It's for a V8

Had my heads redone a couple moths back and engine shop used Elgin RV-804S
He didn't mention having any trouble finding them.

I keep hoping someone will try the V6 out of a Grand National in their Jeep, lots of parts for those. :bananatool:

With the prices of GNs these days, not likely to happen.

Actually the ‘75-‘77 231 Buick odd-fire cams will work with an “update”modification. The 225 cam has “stepped” bearing journals meaning the rearmost one is smallest diameter and they get slightly larger as you move to the front.
The 231’s have all the same size cam journals. All you need to do is use 231 cam bearings in your 225 for the 231 cam to fit properly.
It still must be the odd-fire cam without the big cam gear flange used on the even-fire 231’s. Yes, not everyone is set up to install cam bearings, but any good machine shop does this with a proper rebuild anyway.

The od of the bearings is the same? I knew about the stepped 225 bearings, never considered the od's were the same.
Got sold 225 bearings one time for my 231 didn't check the box. Cam only went in to the second bearing :steamed:

I’m thinking that the OF 231 cams are even harder to find.
