I got the intermediate jeep windshield and painted it Friday. Today I thought I’d get the glass installed. I tried for 8 hours and my hands hurt badly from all the pushing and pulling. It would not go in. Too big for the opening with the gasket. I’m just going to call someone to put one in on Monday. Oh, does anyone know the thread pitch/count for the wiper motor cover? It looks like a course thread, but I had nothing in the shop that would fit.

If not wanting to keep original for the cover fastener, you could tap a size up.

    Re the cover, if it's not 1/4"-20 likely it's a 12-24.
Coarse thread and a little smaller than the common-as-dirt 1/4"-20.
12-24 is not common, but the hardware store will have them.
There is also a 12-28 that is a fine thread and even less common.
The closest metric size is M6x1, but that would be wrong for an original windshield.

Where did you get the windshield glass?
An OEM replacement may be too large for a repop frame.
Recall some that used this frame had a glass shop cut the glass to size from a sheet.

I took my Windsheild to glass shop for them to install the glass. They could not get it done. I did it

Have you looked on YouTube for videos on how to do the install. Make sure the gasket is warm.

Warm gasket and the proper use of the proper strings... My best friend in HS family owned a shop that did auto glass. I used to help him on the evenings so we could go out partying sooner.

    I've forgotten a lot of what we did. 'Course it was much simpler back in those days too. :drool;

    Thanks for the thread help.
For the windshield, it fits fine into the opening (repop—OMIX) but when you add the seal it is about 1/2” too tall. I was able to get the bottom and sides in and a tiny bit near the edges at the top. That was it. Seems to need either smaller glass or a narrower seal. Either way, I hope someone local can get it done.

I hope I can find someone capable of doing it. I did my original glass in the 67 correct WS frame. It was easy compared to this.

Gasket was in the sun at 91 degrees. It was warm.

I believe laminated w/s glass can be ground to size, to a certain degree. But I wouldn't try it at home for a full 1/2 inch.

Others have had this same problem with the OmixMD Jaun frame. It seems like they generally have a shop cut the existing glass down or just cut a new piece of glass from scratch.

I haven't had the experience myself, but I've seen it come up on the forum many times through the years.

Thank you. That’s not what’s in the Omix frame :n:

Thank you. I am going to call a shop tomorrow that specializes in old car glass.

Mine is an aftermarket frame of some kind, but I bought it 25 years ago and I don't remember the manufacturer.

if you have a tap and die set, you can use it for a thread gauge.
I have a cheap Harbor Freight set; not the best, but very useful.

Or you can take one of them out and run to Home Depot and they have a board on one of the racks in the hardware aisle that has all of the different sizes that you can screw into to test what you have. I bought a cheap tap and die set from harbor freight that had the tool that has the different pitches Kind of like a feeler gage

I have one of those in the garage, and it's possibly the most useful tool there is.

LOL - my wife used to baby sit her niece's little boy. He loved bolts and nuts. Took him out to the shop and 'we' built one with about 12 sizes. He would play with it for hours off and on during the day. It went home with him at the point they moved and he wasn't going to be coming over any more.

The Omix frames are infamous for having the wrong size opening for stock windshield glass. I know I had to grind back a “new” frame about 3/16” all the way across the upper opening to match my original rusty frame. Even the bottom of the opening needed attention as it was far from a straight edge.
