I hated the previous sliders I fabricated. As pointed out, they put too much leverage on the body and would/could crease the body. This attempt is a much “truer” slider. I cut a section out of a piece of dom tubing and welded it to the angle iron the entire length. I like the look and it is quite functional now. I have some blue paint leftover and may shoot it tomorrow. Black or vehicle Blue? Any suggestions?

I think flat black is a good choice.

Those look very good! How did you cut the tubing into that 3/4 pie shape?

Thank you. I made two cuts and took about 1/4 of the tube diameter out. It slipped right over the angle iron and I welded it down. I welded the angle to the table to keep it from becoming a taco with all the heat. I skip welded it and was patient. I have to fabricate the passenger tomorrow. I’ll take some pics of the cuts.

A plasma cutter and jig would make quick work of those long cuts. I like the result of the second attempt.
I have 2” DOM bent similar to your first take, but they are deeper and welded to the frame so they are just under the edge of the body. I can jack the side of the Jeep up from mine without them ever flexing to touch the body.

Those sliders look great. Just rattle can it black. So it easy to touch up the scratches after a trip to prevent rust.

Never got to the passenger side. I worked on the upgraded windshield all day. Here is an end view of the thing. You can see how the tube lays over the angle iron. Simple but sturdy. SlidertwoD Medium.jpeg

I think they look fantastic. Understated, but effective - which is my preference.
And I agree on painting them black. They wouldn’t look bad if you painted them the body color, but I think black is better.

Very nice, and close to the plan I had dreamed up to do one day.

Thank you all for the nice comments. I miss the step, but I dream of rock crawling one day (I know I’m in sandy Florida :censored:). One day!

Here are a few pics of the fabrication. I made the passenger side today. As noted, a plasma cutter would have made things infinitely easier. When I win the lotto—that’s on my list. Really simple. Rip the tube. Lay it over angle. Heavily tack the angle iron to a heavier piece of steel (see pics). Skip weld alternating sides/positions. I would make about five, 2 inch passes on each side and then let it cool for about 15 minutes. It didn’t distort at all. I capped the ends to make it prettier.

You've done pretty much exactly what I am planning to do for sliders. Thanks for providing the visual. I like the look a lot. As stated above, understated but functional. Well done sir.

Angle grinder. I didn’t expect it to be under too much tension, but the first cut did result in a pop when it let go.
