The only other thing you could do. If and I say if you can find some old parts catalogs from the years you are looking for you could probably find a part number. Since everything is going to computer a lot of info has probably been lost.

Is there a forum that deals with the Jeep truck you got the engine from. If there is join and post a question. I join a Buick forum and got several parts from members on it cheap.

Posting this for those who may follow in the future as I will be buying from the part numbers already mentioned. But.....the mounts that came off this engine are numbered in the rubber area as follows:

Left side - PN 1246123 (orange)
    PN 1246122 (black)

Right side - PN 1231261 (blue)
    PN 1382968 ( yellow)
    PN 1383797 ( black)

The molded in read just as I posted it. Different colors available. I found an NOS right side #...3797 on flea bay but I'm not going that route. The different colors really have confused. Hard to believe this was a factory thing back in '69 ish.

So, 2 different numbers got me looking for differences between the left and right sides. I noticed that the flange area of the metal stamping on the left side seemed a bit taller than the one for the right side. Bolt spacing to the block is the same left or right. Measuring as best I could with the mounts standing back to back on the bench, the left side holes for the bolt that goes through the frame measured about 3/16 higher than the right side which, when lowered into the frame, would leave the left side of the engine that much lower. This sort of jives with me thinking I have the left and right reversed on my '71 cj as the right side exhaust hangs down a bit lower than the left. Judging from my exhaust, I would think the difference in the motor mounts would be greater than a measly 3/16. Maybe something around 1/2" or so but that's the best I could figgur. These are my observations.

I’ve never seen the “colors” differences with motor mounts. Was the rubber literally different colors? Did the colors correspond to firmness, as in soft, medium, and firm?

Factory mounts from Jeep were always black, no color option. That's nuts.

Yea. I'm a bit doubtful about these being factory original. The symbol molded in to the rubber at the bottom edge is curious. I don't see anything identifying these as either GM or Jeep.

Think about this motor mount issue. When Kaiser got the 225 v6 I would think that the Kaiser engineers would use the Buick motor mounts. It would be easier to make the frame match a Buick motor mount than design a new motor mount and then design the frame to fit it. The Buick motor mount was designed for the engine and mounting it to a frame, you would just need to know how much weight, torque it applied to the frame.

Right, I'd think that Jeep would use everything they could that had already been designed for that engine.
The odd-fire engine was known to shake a lot, and I understood that Buick developed unique soft mounts meant to dampen that shaking.

Please, please make sure you clearly mark them when you take them out of the packaging. There is really bad labelling on these crown parts. I would use a yellow paint pen on the left and a red paint pen on the right or a center punch at a location visible after assemble so you don't mix the two up. Take a photo of them after you make the marks. I took them out of the package and threw away the packaging, thought I figured out which was which, then second guessed myself after everything was assembled and convinced myself to remove them again for comparision. Rookie move on my part.

It's a lot easier to have a vendor move some holes in a part than change tooling for the frame.(Especially when several companies are fighting for a contract) It also allows the new mounts to be used in existing vehicles that have an issue.

Also remember the buicks didn't have a tranfercase hanging off the side of the powertrain.

Lots of transmission crossmember changes including the transfercase mount design.

I seem to label everything now when I take something apart or open a box. Learned the hard way like so many others have. Box it. Bag it. Paint mark it. Whatever. The phone camera sure comes in handy too.

I think I have a set of 'take off' CJ5 Dauntless motor mounts. Still interested?
