Yeah, I would say a truck with an I6.

Not a T-98, and not a 1960, at least the top isn’t. T18 but judging by the output shaft it is fairly early Wagon or pickup.

Judging by the two threaded lugs on the right side and the front bearing retainer it looks exactly like an early jeep T98 to me.
But yes it has a later vintage (not Jeep) shift tower assembly. (Note the reverse switch)
I can’t really determine the maindrive length nor diameter.
But I don’t think it’s CJ sized 15/16”. Looks to be 1-1/8” to me.
So it’s a bit hard to say what it was original to.
Early Willy’s wagons and pickups never them as an option. So it’s most likely from an early Gladiator or a likely an FC 170 with 226.
It could feasibly be from a 1960 FC 170. Less shift tower.

I agree that shift tower likely wasn’t original to that transmission. The trans case is evenly greasy/dirty, but the shift tower is dry/ clean, though the bolts holding it on are greasy. This transmission was likely from a top remote shift FC170.

That’s not a Jeep shift tower.
Jeep T98 seldom if ever had reverse light switches.
Jeep T18 shift towers with the reverse lighting switch have the switch actuated at the rear of the shift rail.
Not actuated from the side of the shift rail like this one.
This one looks to be a Ford design shift tower.
Also the casting number on it looks more like a Ford number.
If a person wants the reverse light switch then personally I think that Ford T18 had a better idea !

Input shaft is too long for a Ford though. My ford T18 has the reverse light switch at an angle and not on the top.

Good catch on the threaded lugs, didn’t see those on my phone. You caught me on that one, T-98 with T-18 top. Definitely not a Universal transmission. Has to be from a truck or wagon.
