Had some issues with the Carter YF I'm not a carb guy so I'm learning here. It wasn't spraying. The accelerator pump worked and it was getting fuel I could see it burping fuel up the tobe at the top of the carb. The bowl was also leaking out the bottom as the bowl was full and pushing gas out the linkage that comes off the bottom. I pulled to top of the carb off and it looked okay. So, I punted on the YF and went to my parts pile. I had salvaged a YS off of the M38A1 that I got transmission and transfer case from. The YS is the correct carburetor for the Jeep so that's always nice. It hada rebuilt tag on it so I'm guessing it was rebuilt sometime in the '60s. The Jeep only had around 11K miles on it but I'd never seen it run.

You're not supposed to be in there...

The first video iis probably idling around 800 rpm. The second was with the throttle pushed all the way in and was probably more like 500 RPM which is what the military sets them to. I'll have to put the timing light on there and see what the RPM really is but it's pretty low. Lower than what I set the YS. Gotta pull the throttle out before a cold start.

Looks great!! Taking the needle valve for the float apart and cleaning might just do the trick. Compressed air from both sides. The valve seat (which is the needle) might be swollen from our modern ethanol fuel. The YS you put in there might have the same thing happen....eventually.

For the YS, Pete DeBella has the correct crossover tube and the four clamps for the air filter. It's not big money. I have a decent take out crossover pipe if you're interested (PM me).

This is the needle and seat that you'd need; https://www.carburetor-parts.com/1100-needle-seat-ns530 Viton is resistant to ethanol. It's good to always have a spare or too!!

Oh, I've got the tube. Been waiting for the YF hat/plenum so I could use them but now that I have the YS on there, I don't need to wait. I only have one clamp though. I should have picked up some more but forgot.

Drove to the local Cars & Coffee to help represent the vintage Jeeps.

This came in the mail recently. It's the skid plate from Brennan's Garage. I figured the original one is a bit wavy and really isn't made for any serious rockcrawling so I might as well upgrade. I guess Stan Fuller has been running them on Grandpa's Jeep for a while now. He had two or three stock plates welded together, IIRC.

On another note, the speedometer stopped working. I haven't checked to see if it's the cable or the gauge. Here's a question though. I have a vague memory of how the D18s speedometer setup is. Can I swap the gear with the flage drive for one with a square drive without taking it all apart? I think I remember being able to unscrew a cover piece and pulling the gear drive out. I'm wanting to install a standard/cheaper CJ5 speedometer cable and drive so I can run my Autometer gauge off it. M38A1 cable is around $120 while a CJ5 is $25...
