    Hello

Brand new member here. I've read the rules, but my apologizes in advance if I am breaking any of them.

My father in law is trying to sell his early CJ-5. This is the info I have on it:

1966 (or 1965) Jeep CJ-5, Tuxedo Park trim. It has original hood badges, but doesn't have the side spare tire carrier.

    4 cylinder engine
    3 on the tree
    5 brand new tires
    Bestops soft top
    Custom roll cage, custom seats.

Currently, not running. FIL says it ran, it is not seized, it needs a carb tune up. I’m listing it for him as he doesn’t do online sales.

He is asking $9500 - you guys are the experts, so please tell me if he way off on the pricing. I looked here, on BaT, and asked some friends on other car forums, and I am getting anything from $5k-15k, so I listed it right in the middle.

Located in Fort Collins, CO. I am 5 miles away, so I can meet and show if anyone is interested. I can take photos of other parts of it if that helps too.

PS. This was not towed behind an RV - FIL had the tow bar installed to bring it to Fort Collins down from Creede, CO.

    Thanks!

I've been watching prices closely myself.
I'll say your price is right...for a running vehicle.
Can you hire somebody for a few hundred dollars to get it running?

I agree, buying a non running vehicle is a crap shoot, and will greatly affect your price.

I think these comments will tremendously help me guide him in that direction. This has been a multiyear project for him, so waiting a bit won't matter much. I would like to sell it while the weather is nice though...Thank you!

Thanks!. I agree 100% and personally, I'd probably never buy someone unfinished project. He might be convinced to get it running before we try selling it. It seems that you can get a new carb for $150 for these, so it might be worth the effort to replace it and see if that fixes the issue.

This said, he is willing to play the haggle game, so if anyone is interested in it as-is, feel free to make an offer.

Shoot some starting fluid in it to see if it fires. That'll tell a lot. Sometimes that'll be all it takes to get it to run, at which point you can evaluate what issues it may truly have.

You Jeep doesn’t appear to be a ‘66. The V6 Tuxes (‘66 and early ‘67) generally are much more desirable than the F134 models, so I think your valuation is optimistic. The F134/column shift versions were only ‘64 and ‘65 models. Do you have the original 1/3-2/3 bench seat?
Can you share the serial number? I’m guessing its in the 8322-14xxx/15xxx range.

I was told it was 1966, but I am not sure. Maybe I need to see if he has the title.

Where do I find the serial number?

    Thanks!

On a metal tag on the driver’s firewall just above the heater box.

Built November 1964, making it a 1965 model. 224 paint is Whitecap White body color, and 227 trim is black (pleated).
