1970 Cj5, Shorten The Steering Column Shaft?

    Thanks for taking time to read this.
    On a 1970 CJ5 Ross box, to move the steering wheel closer to the dash, how practical is it to shorten the shaft?

    Shortening the column is not really an option. There is a one piece shaft with the spiral “worm” end in the gearbox, and a splined and threaded end for the steering wheel on the other end. Unless you were to find a machine shop to re-spline and duplicate the threads, its not really practical. Cutting and welding the shaft that connects the steering wheel to the box would not be advisable.

    Hi Donny, yes, I am a lathe machinist so reforming the splines is an option.
