Good morning all. I was going through my dash and decided to remove the column turn signal switch and install rocker switches. I have the turn signals wired up and working. My question here is; where now do I connect the brown wire ! Lol. The brake light wire. For diagnosis purposes, they worked before I took out the TS switch. I’m thinking that I need to run it to both the blue and orange wires for rear lights.? Will it also need another +12v?

Because the brake light and TS functions utilize the same filament in the 1157 bulb, the original TS switch had internal circuitry that switched the brake light OFF when actuating the TS on either side.
Virtually every American vehicle has the same system. Simple toggle switches can't replicate that function. When rewiring my rigs I always run a separate circuit to additional brake lamps, like most European and Asian vehicles.

or you can add double pole relays to do the electrical switching instead of the mechanical switch in turn signal DAMWIKT:study:

I was thinking about that and thought the behavior on the turn side when stopping would be a solid light instead of flashing because it goes back n forth from the turn input to brake input

it takes two double pole relays
one for left . one for right
brake wire goes to relays also

That will light up your front turn signals when you hit the brakes?

at the time when I did the power steering change over . way before the internet
junkyard runs picking up what thought would work
I found a column that would work with dash and floor
didn't even cross my mind on the brake light wiring till . I started wiring up new column
chevrolet luv . had separate turn signal lights :banghead:

Rocker switches are going to be a bear. Reaching for the dash while turning and shifting IMHO will be a bridge too far. A better solution would be to either score a used Spartan unit or go aftermarket. Signalstat's are a common item on line or at a truckstop.

Yes, I also remember the front signal lights that operated with the rear brake lights.
The original poster will have an easier time installing an aftermarket (like Signal-Stat) turn signal switch if the original Sparton can’t be repaired.
