OK, so I am trying to finish up my 1968 CJ6 and the windshield frame that was on it has been tweaked on the drivers side and has been pulled/bent rearward and I have tried to get it straight with no results. Its a tough bugger to get to back to where it should be. So I ordered a new replacement from Crown and its different. The one I had, has the lower wiper mounts and the opening has about a 1 inch extra header section, where as the new one has almost no header and the glass would need to be 1 inch taller and has lower wiper holes as does the one I had. Anyone have knowledge of which is which?? When I looked them up, I find that I find three different models for 1968. Top mounted wiper, and two different lower wiper mounted ones. Both the large windshield and smaller ones with lower wipers. Any pictures of or facts about this is appreciated. Thanks.

1968 falls in times of transition for CJ windshield frames. Your tweaked old one I would say is most likely as original. The other likely possibility for 1968 is top mounted wiper with the small glass.

If you supply a Crown # of your new one someone may be able to identify its correct fit.

Not sure if this helps but Im currently in the process of doing a windshield swap on my 64' with one from a 69'. It currently has the top mounted wipers with the shorter flat top glass.

Here's the new frame I ordered from summit. It's for a 69' with the bottom wipers and the curved/taller glass.

Heres the glass I ordered. It comes as a kit with the weather stripping. Incase you need that too.

Theyre sitting in my garage waiting for primer and paint but I set the frame on my tub to see if it fits and everything lines up correctly.

If it's different from the one you ordered, I'm happy to take pics and get measurements for ya.

I posted up pictures of the three major varieties of windshields recently in this thread: Windshield Swap Flat Top To Curved Top.
    • Flat topped glass top wiper - up to some time in '68
    • Flat topped glass bottom wiper - some time in '68 to some time in '69
    • Curved top bottom wiper - some time in '69 to '75

Sweetpea, that,s the same one that I got from crown , in Canton Mass. Is that correct that they only charged $9.99 oversize fee for the shipping costs? Seems pretty dang cheap to ship.

Damn that's good news. Just ordered it. Now to go put a fresh coat of epoxy primer on it and satin black. Thanks

Are your hinge posts bent, or the outer hoop above where the hinge post slides in? I’ve seen the hinge part of the windshield tweaked so the frame sits twisted. Swapped out a different hinge, and everything was good.

I pulled the hinge posts out and compared them to another set. I had them out when I tried to bend it back.
I have the new frame painted and ready to install the new summit glass that came in like three days. Nice looking glass to. I'm surprised at the quality of it and the seals are nicer than the ones from xxxx. Jeep parts suppliers.

Years ago we were wheeling in Laurel, Indiana, and I found a windshield frame to a CJ in the bushes. Glass was missing, but the rest was perfect. Wish I would have brought it home. Hindsight is 20/20
