The earlier timing covers didn't have that bolt, so maybe there is no threaded hole in the block at that spot if that is a newer cover on an early dauntless?

Does the bumper have to Look centered or Be centered?

Because it’s an inch off now.

Just match the front! My bumpers are centered on the frame - but the body isn't centered on the frame, so they look off. Or maybe the frame isn't square.....
Oh...the correct answer is whatever Cynthia says

Yours and mine looked similar. I wish I'd thought up something like the hook for that too... I used a bottle jack from HF first, then when it stopped working on it's side, I built a rotisserie out of two old engine stands I'd collected for that. Now I have a proper set of hydraulic tools for mashing dents from the inside out...

As to that hole... mine had similar bondo armor.

I cleaned up, pressed out, then proceeded to use about a full spool of mig wire to lay it in there (I guess similar to the old leading process for body work?). Once I had enough mig wire in there, I would put a magnetic level across it, and grind until I was close. then I'd lay in some more mig wire... grind toward level.

Finally got it to where a thin skim coat cleaned it up. I should have just cut it out like yours.

Not much progress lately on this Jeep. I’m waiting on the guy who is going to install the wire harness to be available.

Got board today and pulled the radiator, front bumper and fender flairs out of the attic. This bumper I bought a few years ago off a junker Jeep a local guy was parting out. It has one side tweaked a bit but I think I can get it mostly straight.

I got flairs and bumper (temporarily) on.

I’ll bet it’s hard to find a straight chrome bumper nowadays. This one wasn’t bad and only cost me $20 several years ago. It’s been hidden in the attic waiting for the right project.

It took a bit of pulling with my winch and quite a bit of hammering on the wrinkled underside to make it look pretty darn good.

I got tired of waiting for my Auto Electric guy to take the Jeep for wire harness install so I started on it the other day.
Front harness (lights/horn) was a breeze.
    Engine harness - No problem.
Rear Harness (lights fuel gauge) going together fine so far.

Dash harness is really intimidating looking! LOTS of wires and I have no idea!

Remove one wire at a time and label its use/location with some of the blue painters tape from the HOM DEOP. remove every wire from the source until the entire assembly can be removed from under the dash, spread out on a work bench, you have a pattern now to duplicate. You will be surprised how simple it is once you study it a little . Make any changes and additions for new components you may desire as you build your new harness relabeling each new wire.

The way I did one jeep was to remove the dash panel and lay flat face down on the work bench with ign switch, speedometer, gauges, wiper switch, heater fan switch, light switch and so on all installed into the panel. built the wiring harness on back of the panel as I went with a nice neat set of harness anchor points to keep everything neat and bunded, leaving pig tails for the thru the dash connector going to the engine compartment, pig tails for the heater fan, brake light switch and turn signal switch coming from the steering column and wiper motor . Then install the dash panel on the jeep and plugged everything up to all of the other harnesses. I basically built three separate harnesses for the entire jeep this way. 1st the under dash harness, second ,the engine compartment harness and all forward lighting, and 3rd, the rear harness for the rear lighting, and fuel sending unit, All 3 harnesses came together at a common connection point on the driver side firewall just inside the engine compartment where all three of the harnesses were plugged together. The under dash harness was the only one built on the bench, the other two were built one wire at a time on the jeep to be sure I had each individual wire was the exact length I needed.

There was very little wiring in the Jeep when I got it. I ripped all of that out like the first day before body work. I have an EZ Wire 12 circuit harness partially installed. The dash wiring does look like the hardest part. I think I will do as you suggested and wire up the dash on the bench as much as I can and use plug connectors to put it in the Jeep.

I'm traveling for the next several days so stand by for any additional updates.

Slow progress on the wiring I have the dashboard pretty much done.
Reverse light switch and figure out a horn switch is about all that is left once I make these connections.

Finished up the wiring harness this weekend. It really wasn’t as hard as I expected. Like y’all said “one wire at a time”.

I have ordered a new blinker switch and new tail lights. I bought the cheapest lights I could find from India or somewhere. Now I’m paying twice.

Thanks. The color has really grown on me and I can't wait to be able to drive it around. I'm going to try to talk Cynthia into bringing it to Colorado this year. We will have to do just the easy trails or she will have to drive! :twist:
