Well thats cool. Someone with a huge amount of money will buy it and it will go right back to sitting in a line of cars. Dead to the world.

The last “good” Firebirds and TA’s were ‘73/‘74 in my opinion. Still, 35 miles old is exceptional.

10th grade high school a kid in the class got a 79 Trans AM.
Brought in owner's manual before he had his license. Really nice but we really gave him a hard time about not being able to handle that car. We called him "Trans AM". One friend whose family raced cars told him he would race him and show him what a real car would do. I talked to my friend later and he said the only time "Trans AM" wasn't looking at his tail lights was on the take off when the Trans AM didn't have enough power to spin the tires. He said, "I just got tired of hearing about that car and had to knock him down a peg or two." We were jealous. but we just gave him a hard time about it. He took it well, but I bet he never brought in the manual without the car again. Wonder if he still has the car. After Smokey and The Bandit, those cars were red hot.

Why did this make me feel all tingly between my legs? The only thing it needs is an aftermarket exhaust.

"Poldsmobile" but darn pretty.. the 403 gets a bad rap, it can be made into a decent engine but the 400 Pontiac is still vastly superior..

But the 400 doesn’t hold a candle to the 455SD from ‘73/‘74, a real Firebird or TA!

There were some very strong 400's in the late 60's/ early 70's. By 79 everything was choked out by emissions equipment and low compression ratios.

Those emissions made dogs out of some nice engines.
Had 68 Ford station wagon with a 390. It ran like a scalded dog.
Replaced it with a 76 with a 460, couldn't get out of its own way. That car loved to knock off at stop lights. Never ran well.

Installing a 429 timing set wakes them up quite a bit.

Yeah, the 70's carburetor 460s came from the factory with the cam setup like 4° Retarded, IIRC, installing the 429 timing set, or an adjustable, moves them back to Straight Up. The later EFI ones are setup at 0°, but the heads really aren't worth a damn.
