I picked up a power steering box from an IH scout ii. If I am remembering correctly, people have used these on jeeps?

I don't see any reason one wouldn't work on a Jeep.

IIRC, it mounts on top of the frame rail - which is good in terms of being less exposed to the rocks - and the intermediate shaft can route above the cross-member instead of under or through it with the traditional saggy mount on the inside of the frame rail. Of course, squeezing the shaft between above the cross-member and under or through the grill is the trade-off. I also believe in its original configuration, it has a pretty long pitman arm to correspond to the long arms on the IH knuckles....obviously that can be managed. I would be interested in one as I like the idea of the higher mount position and maybe more open to cutting a notch in the grill than some.

It also mounts on the outside of the frame rail.

Yup mounts outside the frame like the full sized IHs, at least the D series (late 60s-early70s). Seems like it could offer a lot of advantages if you can get the routing right.

Similar to the couple year F150/Bronco box. Outside the frame, pitman arm forward. Itlksez did a Ford version on Tomasinator's Jeep? Pics here on the site somewhere.

The splines are the same as a standard Saginaw steering gear, so you can use a standard pitman arm.
I looked at putting one on the CJ, but I think the axles are too narrow, the tire would hit it when turning. We're using one for my son's Willys PU, it's several inches wider.

It might work on my jeep since I have a d30.

Its nip and tuck even with a D30. Try to get the drop on the box as close to axle CL for best results. Bubba (yes, his actual name) did one on a 3B with a D30. Used a longer arm to get the box so things didn't interfere with turning radius. I don't remember much about the shaft placement, but do the box as I thought about using one since I've got one laying around here.
