This is has been listed locally for a bit now. Mated to a d20 with pto. Can anyone tell from the pictures how useful this pile of parts would be? It would be going behind the dauntless. From what I can tell at least it has the PTO cover of a jeep t18 case. Assuming the mainshaft and adapter to the d20 would work no problem to the d18. Anything to took for with that front input?

Will the mainshaft work between them?
I'm going to pick up an early version of the Ford t18 tonight. Mostly wondering if I can use the mainshaft and adapter to make the Ford one work. Or I'll get the Novak adapter and shaft.

I've never swapped parts between the two.
    I'm guessing nickmil might know.

After reading Novak's site looks like the inputs are different. But if the adapter and mainshaft work, it would be cheaper to get this one and sell off the PTO...

Hard to tell on my phone but it looks a ‘76-‘79 CJ T-18. I’m basing it off the long pilot on the input shaft and dimensional relationship to the rest of the input. An 18 transfer case will bolt to this provided it’s a large input hole. If you have factory twin shifters grinding on the shifter mounting ear and side of the transmission case will most likely be necessary.
Be aware ‘76 could be either 4.02-1 or 6.32-1 first. ‘77-‘79 should be 6.32-1.

All the gears are removable from the mainshaft so yes, it will work with either gear set. The adapter and shaft will work with the Ford case. You will need to drill and tap 6 holes for the adapter which is easy to do and plug the bottom left bolt hole in the Ford case. The adapter and gasket doesn’t quite cover that hole and you will have a leak it will drive you nuts trying to find.

    Everything Nick said x 2.
Looks to me like the short Jeep maindrive gear (input shaft)
That implies the 6.32 gearing 1977-1979 Jeep.
Best of the Jeep T18’s imho.
Personally if all the Jeep gears look good I would not mess with any of the Ford parts.
Modify the Jeep case is just as good or better than modified Ford case. However the Jeep mod requires some minor cast iron welding.

Got the Ford t18 Monday night. It'll need a rebuild, but for $200 about what I was expecting.

    Reverse gear
    [IMG]

    First reverse slider
    [IMG]

The rest of the gears should clean up. Just a grungy dried up oily coating right now.

Question I have for everyone is for the reverse idler and first reverse gear. Is crown good enough for these or is there still better suppliers making these gears?

Getting ready. Ordered an otc bearing splitter that should be here tomorrow. Cut the pieces at work and welded them up tonight. Planning to be able to use my slide hammer. If not I'll get a big bolt to press it off.

Just for fun, can we see a better photo of the D20 PTO?

Didn't get that one. If it's still posted next week after I get paid I may inquire

Reverse definitely toast, given what I've seen and used that first doesn't look terrible. I also use Cobra transmission.

Finally got my bearing splitter. Had to get some 5/8 bolts for the splitter. Needed to use the fine thread rods that came with it for the puller upright part. Couldn't find fine thread bolts long enough. Slide hammer got the front bearing off, used the bolt holes in the bearing splitter to push against the case. Just threaded in the bolts and pushed it off.

So how does that cluster gear look?

Had to pull of the hub and gear on the output shaft in order to get it out. Man that's a pain

How is the needle bearing surface on the input shaft? The output looks a bit seasoned.
Cluster would also need the needle surface looked over in detail.

Cluster shaft and the needle surfaces are good. Same with the input.
