Yeah....everything is buttoned up, I started the jeep drove outside the shed, snubbed it, tried to restart and nothing but little clicks. :censored::censored:

Checked the battery, it's at 12.8v....so bad starter?

Took the FC for a ride. Eff this thing.

Couldnt be truer. Looked today. Previous owner had the starter to battery cable wrapped with electrical tape. This is fine, he says.

The 8° axle shims helped with the vibration, but I think it's too much. Try 6°?

Also think I should replace the ujoints. If there there isn't any feelable slop when I tug on the driveshaft, is it possible they can be worn out?

You could always just unbolt the shaft from the rear and pop the 2 accessible caps for inspection.

T case is down 5°, axle pinion is pointing up 10°.

There is an 8° shim in use. If I get a 3° shim, that would put me at 5°, Matching angles, right?

Ok...all u joints were 100% junk on the rear driveshaft. Replaced all 3 of them today.

With the driveshaft off, I re-measured the pinion angle. It's up at 12°, with 8° axle shims. Taking them out put me at 4° up. Trans is down 5°.
Is 1 ° going to matter or do I get 1° shims?

You said three U-joints. Do you have a CV rear driveshaft? If so, you want no angle on the rear joint. The pinion should be pointing to the output flange of the transfercase.

i do have a CV driveshaft. i will remove it from the driveshaft section, and then remeasure the trans angle with the CV end installed.

it isnt much work, but i dont want to put it all together, only to have to take it back apart for a 1 degree shim install this afternoon.

I see the image wasn't working in my previous post. I fixed it.

The transmission angle does not matter with a CV driveshaft. You just need to make sure the U-joint at the axle end is as straight as possible.

U joints replaced, no axle shim, I can go 60mph no problem. The axle pinion angle is pointing up at 3.5°. This is fun! Debating getting a 1.5° shim to match the angle of the tcase pointing down.

Now, off to see why my other jeep nearly burned down

All right, project update. I'm pretty confident my driveline angle is fine. Took a 10 mile round trip and got up to 65 pretty easily with throttle to spare, and zero felt vibration.

Changed the rear pinion seal I messed up while changing out axle shims. It's not leaking at all after my road trip. I parked in a non stained spot in my shop and I'll check it out tomorrow after work.

First pic is in the field behind my house, next pic is a church parking lot a few miles up the road. Resized_20240904_172136.jpeg Resized_Resized_20240904_172833.jpeg

not sure what to tackle next. this thing runs and drives fine. i can start and go and it seems reliable. winter is coming so not sure what to focus on over the next few months. i would like to put a new oil pan gasket on, this one is leaking. but thats a 20 minute job.

    suggestions?

spent 2 hours cleaning the wood grain sticker off of the dash, and goof off to remove the glue residue. also removed the last remaining glue residue from the tint strip at the top of the windshield.
it is a super nice color! any guess as to the color it is?

got new wiper arms put on and clocked correctly. ran the wiper motor wires from the motor to the switch in a loom. they were just the exposed wires with intermittent wraps of electrical tape. much cleaner now. also working on the grab bar now, it was just wrapped in electrical tape. took that all off, wire wheeled and cleaned it with goof off to remove tape residue. black paint is drying today, then reinstalling it.

Is the black fender the one you swapped the two intermediate fenders for? I met your BIL in Ripon to exchange them.

Yours are waiting to be mounted on the FrankenJeep…
