considering this for a lightweight quick and dirty trail tool... yes, it uses my despised pico chain with extra safety pre-raker-rakers safety chain...

NO, it's not intended as a tree chopping, firewood making, deadfall clearing sawdust maker, but mostly a quick and dirty big branch remover where I don't want to dig out my pulaski and chop my way thru... and I don't want to deal with gas/oil and a real saw...

Most of what I keep bumping into regularly is greasewood / river brush that's over-grown / dead and I'm gonna get serious pinstripes or whacked from loaded branches... The other stuff, broken cottonwood branches and such that just need a quick chop/lop and toss...

I looked at Stihl bat-powered saws but I might as well use gas and deal with the potential leaks, drips, etc. in the truck for the $$$ ($299 for saw, $200+ for a battery, $100 for a charger, etc.). I looked at the Ryobi saw models that use my already big fleet of 18v batteries... (basic foot print / heft of a regular saw, so, back to use-what-i-have-already again).

Anyone using one of these around their yard? Actually getting the 20+ minutes of 'runtime' described?

and no, I don't forsee myself whistling the tune to any of the 'man with no name' westerns and wearing the holster getup whilst cutting a branch or three...

side note, the FIL has one, was a gift from a buddy, has used it around his place, and it seems promising... just looking for more input.

While I have not used the Stihl I do get around 20 -25 minutes out of my Chinese knockoff bought from Amazon. I use mine for cutting kindling (up to 2”) to start fires when camping, I can’t imagine the Stihl not being at least twice as good. I wanted the Stihl when my wife got me the little Chinese saw, we couldn’t last year find the Stihl anywhere at the time.

I got a Milwaukee M18 16" chainsaw that works with my M18 tools. So far I really like it. You can just set it down when you need move what ever you cutting. No noise to speak of and really cuts well. Runs longer with the big batteries...

I have a DeWalt 20v unit that is very handy around the house. Quiet and even though I have it hanging on my shop wall it hasn’t leaked any bar oil at all.

I have one of the 18V Ryobi pole chainsaws, and for what it is, works surprisingly well. It only has an 8” bar, but the business end has a steep angle that hooks over what your trying to cut, so you more “pull” rather than push as you make the cut.
Another feature is you can remove the center section of the pole, shortening the tool to about 5’-6’ long, making it handy for close work. Its just not near as short as the Stihl tool you asked about. I use my polesaw in the short form nearly as much as full length. Full length, its real handy to climb on my roof to keep trees pruned away from the house.

I do have what I call a chainsaw on a stick. I think it's 10 inches and plugs into AC. Works well but is hard to hold up at the end of a 10 foot pole...
