So I purchased new windshield rubber to go around the original glass as the old stuff was hard as a rock and I needed to get it off in order to powder coat the windshield frame.

When installing the new windshield surround it appears that it fits snuggly around the glass but now the glass doesn't fit in the frame by quite a bit (+/- 1"). Can anyone help me out with getting this installed correctly and figuring this out?

Any experiences with this would be great as I am struggling! Thanks!

My limited experience = rubber surround on frame first, then glass put in rubber. Do a search on the subject here--there will be some pointers.

Patience, extra hands, helpful tools. You know, but it needs to be said, "Heavy concentrated pressure on edges/perimeter of old (or new) glass is not good."

X2 - I took all the parts and the freshly painted WS frame to our local glass guy and it was money well spent.

The rubber seal with the locking strip is about 100x easier with the installation tool. I have the tool I can loan if you decide to do it yourself.

Put rubber on glass. Wrap cord (para cord works good) around perimitter of rubber and inside the groove. (where the metal will be). Cover all rubber sides with spray on silicone. Place windshield on frame front and lightly push down as you pull one cord out the back side. This will zip the rubber onto the frame. If it is a locking rubber you will then need to lock it in, if not you are done.

So I took it to a shop today and turns out they think the original glass had been cut for some reason and that is why the windshield didn't fit in the frame (gaps at all 4 corners). New glass has been ordered to make a comparison and should know more later today.
