Hey folks... sold my CJ5 a few months back. Now i got the bug... the "i need a flattie" bug. :clap:Can't go too long without an old jeep...just doesn't feel right. Something is missing in the garage...

So I've been looking online... here... willys for sale... ewillys etc.

Wow prices have gone up alot in the last 2-3 years. I have a friend who I bought a M38A1 from a few years back; he always has some good jeeps. Prob gonna talk to him but any advice or suggestions on where else to look would be helpful.

I don't do facebook/meta... whatever it's called now so that's not really an option.

    Thanks!

I've been sorta looking for over a year, pretty slim picking here in the rust belt Northeast.

I put a 47 in the classifieds, had a lot of lookers, but no offers. I don't know if I am just too far away from everyone, or if the price was too high, but I listed it for about what I have in it.

I sorta like that 48 as a driver...I think the GM 4cyl swap could be nice upgrade but still is appropriate in some hard to describe way. I've got no need for another swb cj...can barely figure out the wagon at this point.

The Chevrolet 153 4 cylinder is an excellent engine. I had one in a 1963 Chevy II, it was very reliable, and had plenty of power.

The Mercury boat engine is the same engine though some of them have a different head. Either are excellent engines for a Jeep though the automotive version is getting scarce, and conversion manifolds for the marine engine can be expensive.

it doesn't have to be perfect... i like working on them.. changing parts, etc. I would prefer the frame and body to be in good shape. I don't want to have to do a tub replacement or major repairs to the frame or body. would also like it to run... shipping costs too much for a vehicle that doesn't run. maybe asking for too much?

In France, the prices of the "flatties" are very high, they are transformed in D day Jeeps.
There are very few CJ5, and they were not very expensive in comparison.
Our problem is that there is no parts for the CJ5, but for Willys with Godevil engine, there is a lot.
The WIllys (D Day..) were produced in France until 1962 or more for French Army, so parts are everywhere.
Both are interesting, but a nice CJ5 at a good price is good, of you find that the "Fatties" are too expensive.
You have lot of parts, so the choice is possible. Good luck.

I feel like prices have gotten ridiculous. I bought my 46 4 years ago for $500 with a title. Everything was there (v6, trans/tcase, axles, complete body), but it needed a ton of work, which I was fine with. Sold the motor for $450, the tire and wheels for $250 then built the jeep I wanted. I called a guy a couple months ago who advertised a "barn find" 2a, which was funny because the photo showed the jeep parked in a creek surrounded by blackberry bushes. The ad also highlighted that the transfer case is included and was pictured detached and half buried in the mud. The guy was asking $4000, no title. I told him I'd give $400 for it and explained in detail the reasons why that was a generous offer. He told me the price for used vehicles has gone waaaay up:rofl:
