I have a Dauntless V6 and after realizing some issues with the stock headers from the PO I decided to buy a new aftermarket set of Hedman’s.

can someone confirm for me that these will fit and also tell me if I need to make any body modifications to make them work??

I have the same design headers on my V6, and the fender wells had to be cut to allow them to fit.

    Cheers!

If you are unfamiliar with fenderwell headers:
Don't forget to install a set of hangers on the rear of the mufflers.
The longer the muffler the quieter to exhaust.
You will need kickouts or you will be getting exhaust in the cab.

I would like to correct my earlier post stating you had to cut the fenderwells, actually the bottom of the firewall had to be cut, as Twin2 stated.

    Sorry about that!

Yes, the 225 became the 231 after GM bought the production line back from Kaiser/AMC. It is the same engine just a bigger bore.

I heave those same headers and am glad I came across this thread because I need to buy new gaskets for when I reinstall them.
My mufflers are positioned so that they point at the rear tires. It seems like that would damage the tires and they should be pointing outwards instead. What is the right answer to that? 336F5B8C-BE4F-4C22-86D3-DC8EAAD6A141.jpeg

This is how I ran them on my 71. They were run out the back and made for a nice mellow sound.

On my '71 the previous owner ran them outside the frame all the way back. They routed to the outside of the shock and dump behind the rear tires.

    Shock missing in this picture:

It looks like it would hit the tire but it doesn't. Here it is at full stuff and the tire is will touch the inner fender before it touches the exhaust:

Same ones I have so they do fit, mine just replaced set that was cracking in a few spots so I didn't have to do any cuts but yeah previous owner said he had to modify a bit to fit them.
Just curious will Summit ship them to you? I had to get them from ebay because few places said they won't ship to Cali and I am pretty sure Summit was one of the places I tried....

I originally installed the longest set of turbo's I could find. The exit came out directly in front of the rear tires. This caused two issues.
First, mud was being slung into the muffler.
Secondly, and most importantly, exhaust was being sucked unto the cab.
I shortened the mufflers and added kickouts. This eliminated both problems.

They come with gaskets but there not a very good match to the 225 exhaust ports. I bought some annealed copper sheet from McMaster-Carr and made my own.Wasn't to difficult and no gasket blow out. Something to consider. mike

I’m not trying to hijack your thread, I have been looking at these exact headers for my Saginaw swap. Are you able to connect the muffler directly to the header and have enough room for 90 turn out right before the rear tire? Or would I need the shortest muffler possible?

That's exactly how mine are dumping out right before the rear tires I can't remember if they were 18" or 19" borlas they do have a nice rumble but not overbearing....
