Tis the season and there are a few cool snow plowing threads floating around so I thought I’d post this up. Feel free to post your own snow pushing experiences.

This is our recent multi day maybe 6-8” event. We’ve certainly had more but not much. We’re at about 1,100’ and I’m just using my little Kubota with the standard bucket.

I've got stuff in another thread but I'll add it here to. The more the merrier. Our driveway is 3/4 mile long and in snow drift country.

For a quick plowing to clean several inches off the driveway, the quad works great. With chains on the back it can bust through 1 1/2 ft drifts, but that's about it.

For more serious stuff we have the new-to-us-this-year front mount blower on the 47hp tractor:

We been getting 1-2 inches for many days now and cleaning the driveway every day but haven't really been able to test the blower's capacity yet. We're supposed to get 6 inches tomorrow which means multi-foot drifts across the driveway. That should be a decent test.

No problem with frosty windows and not too bad at minus 13 degrees F. The snow is powder and no chains necessary yet.

When it gets a little deeper and no place to put it--just toss it a bit farther. The Ford 4000 tractor & the CJ5 V6 (above) are the same year, 1966

It's going to be in the 60's and 70's all week here in Virginia

So much for the farmers almanac prediction of a hard winter. I love the snow, and wish there was more of it here. Bring on the plow pics!

I hear ya, we were to have a very mild winter. Uh, not so far…. But I still love snow. In February I’ll be over it but for now it’s an adventure. I don’t love driving to work off the mountain in the snow but absolutely love driving back up after work. And the kids are becoming sledding pros which I love to see!

Somehow I thought this would involve your wife burning rubber in the Faclon to melt the snow.....
    Please try again!

We got about 6” last night, and the overnight lows dipped to around 6° here, up to a balmy 8° while plowing. I love plowing powder like this because it looks like a wave of water coming off the plow.

It made for some frozen eyelashes though.

Got after it again after getting home from breakfast with Nick and Damon (Nickmil and Ragna-something I don’t remember) in Portland. Temps are warming up so it’s a good day to get a head start on the driveway melt off.
I’d love to justify an actual plow setup but we normally only get a few snow events a year here that actually hang around.

Had a break in the snow this morning so we went blew about 4" off the driveway with some 1 ft drifts here and there. So far the the blower is working great:

We've had a bunch more snow and a bunch more wind since then. Might do another round before it gets dark. If not, first thing in the morning.

I was thinking much harder about your lighting upgrade a few days ago pushing snow in the dark after work. My lights are awful, especially with the bucket in the travel position. I’ll be copying that in the upcoming year.

Yeah, a front bucket and hood mounted lightw really aren't compatible. The high mount lights are really worth the effort.

Got some pretty good drifting snow last night.

My wife is standing at the right edge of the driveway here:

    The tractor ate it up:

Without the markers you would have no idea where the driveway is down towards the road:

    Much better:

For fun I decided to clear out this drift next to the shop. 2 to 3 ft deep:

    Worked great:

...until it didn't. Lost the master link clip on the feed chain:

Because I'm still getting used to this thing, I'm woefully unprepared and don't have a spare. Extra chain, a breaker, and master links ordered from Amazon. I'm guessing any local place that would carry them is closed to tomorrow so we're asking around if the neighbors have some extra master links. My guess is yes since we're in farm country.

The farmers who lease our land had some master links and drove one over. Talk about service:

Used the old bullet heater to melt the ice off the sprockets:

Back in action with the clip installed so any drag on the snow/ice will push the clip in tighter. All set for more plowing which is good because we have a wind and drifting snow advisory in effect for the next few days:

    Haha that is hilarious!

We have warming temps on the way, appear to be headed back to the usual rain. This has been a very unusual event for us. All of the Christmas snow is still in the ground. The lower driveway to the barn is an absolute iceberg. It’ll be nice to get some melt off and maybe get the f100 out of the barn for a test drive.

We moved some snow on Sunday so we could move some black trees on Monday. 4 miles of road opened up with a D7 and finish graded with a 140g 20220103_102321_compress67.jpg 20220103_102845_compress42.jpg 20220103_102845_compress42.jpg
