Keep in mind it is only 12’ long but it’s been a lot of work to date. When it’s done it will contain over 150 individual pieces of wood
From the bow looking aft. The inside is almost complete

    more build picks to follow

Stringers with okume 4mm marine plywood panels. I drove to charlotte mi to get the plywood in December of 2012. Cherry trim and decks, inner and outer stems made of cherry. I will be flipping it soon to finish the outside which currently has 2 coats of epoxy. I will paint the outside white also with the top plank either green or blue. I still need to build a mast and boom, rudder and tiller handle finish the center board and hopefully see my own sail.

    Very nice.
I've always loved the look of wooden boats but the upkeep is a crusher.
I had two sunfishes (the first was my mom's). Really miss sailing now.

    It's Done!

    test fitting the mast

The way complicated rudder(no lines on it yet to pull it up and down.

The mast is made from three layers of Douglas fir laminated and turned round with a lot of elbow grease. I used the armstrong machine also. The boards came from our bleachers that were removed in 2019. The one board I used for the boom had 31 rings/inch the board was 9" wide so about 300 years of life recorded in that one board. No telling how old the tree was.

I'm still waiting on my sail kit from Sailrite. Hoping to have it ready for spring launch!

Paddle I made for my sole canoe and and upcoming kayak completion build. Same bleacher wood as I used for my spars on the sailboat and I threw in some redwood for accents/ racing stripes. Blades have been hollowed and rounded.

Time you go visit her and subtlety make it clear you won't leave until it is flying.
