I don't mind driving it and it wheels pretty darn well with no lockers and bald 35s but it has been a money siphon in the short time I've owned it.

I'm considering the purchase of a 2008 JK...but still cautious.

Yup. Leftover Mercedes parts. The Nag1 trans is a good trans, just should've been left in a car.

My wife and I were talking about a "fun" vehicle, which originally started out as an M3 BMW convertible, and then morphed (woohoo!) into an orange 4-door jeep. I'm lobbying for a punk'in LJ, but she likes the older burnt orange color. I'm taking bets on who will win. I'm also lobbying for a 2-door, but don't have much hope of winning that fight...

You already have won and will win. She's your wife so you won her heart and she's not insisting on a pink chick car.

Installed the pcm and there was a misfire (1/5) under load.

    Plugs, wires, coil pack- $171

    This explains the stumble.

Replaced the serpentine belt and tensioner this evening $131.

I haven't driven the jk in over a month because of the serpentine belt tensioner broke. Anyhow just about 5 hours later I got hit from behind while at a dead stop at 50mph. I think enough stuff is broken to total it out. We'll see in the coming days or weeks.

I had the opposite reaction myself. This thing is a financial burden.

The shop camera caught the whole accident. Saturday morning I went to look at the damage and there is some frame damage. The JK slid about 27 feet after the first impact. The back door won't open anymore. The bumper sits maybe 1/2" or so off the side of the frame now. Its mounts are made of both 1/2 and 1/4 plate.... The driver said she was going 45mph and the road is a 35.... She also had no insurance but I have full coverage so I'm still good. The impact broke the hard top and it almost fell off. The RR brake caliper is leaking so that justified it as undrivable. There are scuff marks on the diff cover and rear track bar from the car as well. Plenty of other damage was done. Shocks, broke the driver seat adjuster, misc trim, air vent, exhaust, sway bar, tires, etc.

Collect your insurance and send it to the salvage yard---- I suspect there are all sorts of bent stuff under there you will be dealing with for years.

On your spark plugs, mine did the same thing at about 50k.
