Exhaust Manifold Damper 304 V8

Dear All, ist it worth to remove the Exhaust manifold damper on a 304 V8, is their an adapter for it. When I bought it it was fixed to the open possition. Does the always open position improve the V8 or is therer no change with or without?

Yes, you are right.

It's only important in very cold weather, and only for the first several minutes of driving.

The closed klappe sends exhaust gas through a passage in the intake manifold, to the opposite side. This heats the intake manifold, which prevents fuel from condensing on the inside of the cold manifold. This improves fuel delivery to the cylinders ... but only when it's very cold, and for the first several minutes. Once the engine warms up, the flap opens and stays open.

 

The flap uses a bi metal strip, much like the one in your choke, to open and close. Over time, especially if the rig sits for long periods, they tend to rust and stick, usually in the closed position. If you are unwilling to check/lube it periodically, and don't live in super cold climates, then removing the strip (which should drop the weighted valve in the open position) or the entire unit would probably be a better long term answer.
