I just saw this pic from a posting of a 1970 CJ5 on the Market Place forum and was wondering if the way they have PCV connected to the oil bath air filter is correct. I thought the PCV was supposed to connect to back of the carb?

It's wrong. That stub on the back of the oil bath air cleaner was used as fresh air supply for a smog pump system that almost everybody removed. You are correct. the base of the carb goes to a hose with the PCV valve at the other end. The PCV valve goes into that grommet on the rear end of the right hand valve cover.

Is that stub typically just plugged?

If the smog equipment has been removed, then yes, it can just be plugged.

Both the air filter connections supply filtered fresh air, one to the crankcase and one to the air injection (smog pump) system. You could put the AI back, but I expect the parts are hard to source now. There is no local smog check for a '70 anywhere, that I know of. Otherwise you need to plug it so no dirt/dust bypasses the air cleaner element and enters the carburetor.

Thanks! I’ll be plugging mine. The smog control is long gone.
