    I’m ready to dive into Refurbishing/repainting my 1970 CJ5.

    Here’s the specs :
    - Dauntless V6
    - Prestolite Dist with points
    - Warn Lock-o-Matic Hubs
    - original color is a metallic green. Haven’t identified the actual color code yet.

The only changes I’ve made since I bought it are
    - BDS suspension
    - new Radiator

I want to take the tub off frame and repaint and want to keep as close to stock as possible.

Can you tell me what I need to change/add/delete to get it close to stock?

    Here’s the Jeep:

Nice looking Jeep, can't help with the stock question, but just wondering why painting?, looks almost brand new to me.

    Thanks.

The previous owner painted it in a way that has a lot of orange peel. No shine , etc.

And there’s a little rust I need to deal with.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

A lot to like and many cool original features as it is.

One thought - You don't see many jeeps with steps... the reason being they get ripped off almost immediately if you take it off-road.

With a Jeep that looks like that, I would limit myself to one task at a time that can(will) be done in one weekend. My favorite Jeep(roughest of them all) was the one I could drive.

It's the Same color as Mine. There's plenty of shine & that's a Beautiful 50 year old CJ 5 , Sir. I would leave the body work & concentrate my jobs on Tuning & Lockers & things like that . I really , really , really like your Jeep !

You’ll find here about half of us are in the “modify” crowd the other half are the “restore” type. Either way you do have a nice Jeep and I agree that taking it slow and enjoy driving it is a great idea.

That's a beautiful example of a vintage jeep that's in amazing condition (e.g. all the dash knobs, body not hacked up, great seats, etc.) So many projects go down the path of a frame-off restoration and get to the "off" part and don't proceed from there (I know, I bought a jeep from someone in that state). I would suggest keeping this jeep as-is and to scratch the restoration itch, find a project jeep that really does need a refurb frame-off and tackle that. Keep this one to drive. The cool factor as it sits right now is off the charts.

Thanks for everyone’s feedback and comments. You’ve convinced me to leave well enough alone and just focus on some of the mechanical things and driving it.

This is such an awesome site!

    A little doll -up & projects like a front winch install, a Petronix distributor + driving her all over the world, would be more fun. You have a real good one. I am Envious, and, Oh Yeah, I want it......when your done . :drool;

That was on the Jeep when I bought it. Not sure how/where the PO got it.

It looks like it is made from a thin piece of tin.

I can take some better pics and measurements if that would help.
