    My 1968 Cj5 that was bought new in 1968 has the longest shifter, it has actually two bends in it. It is non- synchro three-speed and it's the original transmission. I cut it down to match most standard jeeps in that year. I need to really inspect what type of drivetrain I have since I am restoring it. And do my own research I appreciate all of the input. I hope to be as knowledgeable as you guys because it is this year's hobbie.

    Yes...please get a pic of the transmission...we can help a lot more if we know for sure what components you have and aren't guessing. Even a picture of the shifter will help.

    If you look at the left side (IRC) of the T86AA, that identification is cast on the side of the case.

    ??? The originals were synchro-ed on second and third.

    I went out pull the cover and I have a T86A. It had a tag on the driver's side. I did cut the shift lever down to a stock height of most jeeps. It just bug me.
