That would originally have been a TH400 that has an output spline for a D20.

I have a TH400 I just took out of a 1971 Jeepster chassis I bought. Don't know anything about how it ran but the fluid looks real clean. The torque converter is missing. I'm in NC. PM me if you want more info.

I just about gave two away when I moved and didn't want to haul them. They went to a guy that goes by Flan on the Jeepster Commando club site. He's north of Albany NY and super nice guy. Don't think he needed both.

I’ve thrown so many away, the dauntless in my rover came from a 71 jeepster automatic... don’t recall what I did with that one...
I’ve been thinking of an automatic build and that 71 drivetrain sounds ideal...

Will the Commando TH400 work in a CJ5? How long is the rear driveshaft?

I’m curious what others will say, but my friend’s dad had a th350 in a flatty and his driveshaft was about 12”.

If I recall, the 350 is about 6" shorter main case than a 400. The 700r4 is about 2" longer than a 350. These are ballpark numbers. By main case, I'm referring up to where the tailshaft extension mounts on (where a T/C adapter would mount). I've done TH350s in 81" CJs, but the rear driveshaft is about 12"-13" if I recall.
