Is there anything past pulling the pinion nut to getting it off? I spent 4 hours trying to pull it today and busted 3 pullers in the process. All i wanted to do was replace the seal.

Im either missing something simple or its rust welded on there. Im about to take a cut off wheel and a cold chisel too it and put a new one on.

Probably worn and turned slightly to not allow removal. Maybe hit it with a hammer opposite side of drive to get the splines to line up?

It hit it from all directions, applied heat, pb blaster, hit it in all diections while under load of the pullers. Nothing.

Strange thing. Have any luck yet? I have never even had to use a puller, they usually will slip right off with the tap of a hammer.
I know you probably checked to make sure someone has not welded it to the pinion under the washer.
If you have a large brass drift might try driving the pinion back a little, just enough to make it loose. might need to remove the gear case first.

I had to cut it with a cut off wheel then drive a cold chisel into it until it split. Even after that i had to drive it off with a hammer and punch.

I did mess up the pinion in the process. Doh! Now gotta spend more money and time on something i didnt want to rebuild lol.

Did you figure out why it was stuck on there? I had a tapered D44 axle that would not come apart. The hubs and pinion were stuck on. No amount of heat or hammers with pullers would make it come apart. I ended up scrapping the entire axle with a detroit locker in it. I actually bent the hubs trying to get them off. Correct puller too.

inspecting the old yoke just looked like age and corrosion. I'm going to be refreshing the axle now. Not something I really wanted to deal with but my had got forced on it when I messed up the pinion yoke.

Back in the day when my brother and I were driving the 3B with tapered axels the hub puller would sometimes swell the end of the threaded axle before breaking loose. Usually ruining the axle. We found if we would loosen the axle nut a couple of turns so have about 1/8 in clearance between the nut and hub flange then replace the cotter key. Drive around about a week while watching the gap untill it worked loose. Almost always worked without using the puller.
