Questions About V6 Transmission - Transfer Case Rear Insulator / Mount

    In addition to the Z bracket on the passenger side (see T86 And D18 Extra Mount Plates? ), the D-18 in my '67 V6 rests on a large rubber insulator mount between the transfer case and crossmember. (The thick bracket bearing on the insulator mount is also shown removed in the above thread.)

    I just noticed though that this rubber insulator / mount, besides being in somewhat rough shape, appears to possibly be lacking a bolt at its left (drivers side) end.

    Here's a photo from below the crossmember, looking up through the large hole in the bottom up towards the top flange. You can see what appears to be a hole in the top flange of the crossmember that a bolt could pass through. There's also a similar sized hole in the top of the rubber mount.

    However it is impossible to get the hole in the top of the crossmember to align with the hole in the rubber insulator and metal cradle in order to allow a bolt to pass through.

    Was there even a bolt there originally? - and if so, it is likely that the rubber insulator just deformed over the years to the point that bolt will no longer go through it?

    Is it possible to get a replacement for this rubber insulator anywhere?

    Technically that's the transmission mount, not transfer case. Does it have two bolts attaching it to the crossmember?

    Mine looked about like that with a new mount, left all the bolts loose until they were all in, with the ends of the crossmember being last. Pretty sure the mount is readily available.

    Thanks, that's very helpful info, and I've changed the thread title accordingly. Now I just need to figure out the correct part.

    There appear to be two versions of it. The rubber top part looks the same on both, but one comes without studs, and one with - though it could be that they're the same part, and the studs were separate part numbers - or maybe the non-studded version is designed to be bolted in from below.

    Here are examples of both. The first two photos are of the Crown replacement part (JO939995):

    I'm guessing the "with studs" NOS version would be the better one, but am not sure.

    Has anyone used one or the other of these?

    I put my new Crown mount and transmission back together the way mine came off my bent original crossmember - bolts up from below into the “z” plate, and then I will drill and bolt from below into the threaded holes in the mount.     I have not yet permanently mounted to the crossmember and am waiting until I mate the engine to the transmission and see where the assembly belongs laterally.

    Thanks for your post and great pics above, truckee4x4 - it's very helpful to see it installed. It now occurs to me why the Crown replacement mount, which is what's shown in the first two photos in my post just above yours, has threaded holes in its base instead of studs like the NOS Jeep mount shown in the third photo.

    The Crown mount is designed to slide in more easily under the transfer case, and then be bolted in from below in order to make it simpler to install. To install the NOS version, the transfer case would have to be either removed or raised up a good bit first in order to have enough clearance to slide the studs in the base through holes in the crossmember.

    Another reason to drop the studs cheaper to make
