I'm new to this whole table saw thing. Am I doing it right?

...wait, I think this is it:

Seriously though, buying a table saw was one of the smartest things I've done for working on this old house. It's saved me literally hours on trimming out the windows and other things.

So here's to tablesaws (even cheap portable ones like mine)!!!

    Gotta have a table saw!

But a 10" sliding miter saw, with beveling capability, is the best invention of the last 100 years, as far as finish work is concerned.

I've got two table saws, old 10" Rockwell contractors, and Grizzly 10" revolving knife table saw...

When I first got my Rockwell I had it in the front room of my rental house. Cut wood out the front door until... :madwife:

Edited: It is amazing how much sawdust a table saw is capable of making...

I have a table saw - very handy - but no sliding miter. Any recommendations? Compact, affordable, accurate would be desirable attributes.

That's the truth. Just doing trim in the hall and den upstairs has filled a 13 Gallon kitchen bag.

For the 20 years before getting the table saw, I always had to clamp a straight edge to work piece and use the circular saw. The table saw is soooo much faster, easier and less prone to error. It's also amazing to rip shims the exact thickness you need. Even angled notches are super easy. I love it.

The table saw is nice, but the miter saw is better at things like face frames and crown molding. I have done things like bevel the ends of 4x4s with my table saw, but a miter saw would be better. My Dad had a manual miter saw, but I believe that's with my brother now.

How about this one? https://www.amazon.com/Makita-LS1040-Compound-Miter-Saw/dp/B0000223I4/ref=sr_1_2 Another tribute to my Dad - he liked Makita blue.

I've had the non-sliding miter saw in the first post for 20 years now and used the heck out of it. Since I have it, I haven't been able to justify a sliding one just yet.

Needing to custom rip 21 window casings for this house, it was finally time for a table saw.

I have a 10” Delta contractor saw. Never liked it. Seems to vibrate. Have a 10” Grizzly cabinet saw with an Incra fence and built in router table and an Incra miter gauge. Nice saw especially with the attachments. In storage is my Dads 10” Craftsman contractor saw and an old Art Deco Craftsman 8” saw.

I have a Bosch 10" direct drive contractor's table saw with an Incra miter gauge (bought on advice from here, maybe Cap-n-Cray?) and I use the heck out of it. Hardly seems worthwhile to break down the stand and hang it up. I even use it to cut G10 circuit boards - works great, though it's probably death to the blade.

I have an old Hitachi 10" slider, and have never wanted anything else. Definitely prefer a slider.

The used makita slider I picked up seems bulkier.

Friend of mine, a master stair-maker has a newer Hitachi with a laser, but says that a laser isn't precise enough for his work.

I have a Makita Ls1040 thats more than 25 years old. I only use it to cut aluminum shower extrusions
with a triple chip 100 tooth blade. i don't know if the new ones are made as well as the old ones. Makita
was the only miter saws my dad would buy. When we did mostly commercial store fronts, we tried ryobi, hitachi,
bosch, and others and the Makita's would always outlast them all. I think i paid more in the mid 90's for mine than
the one Tim linked on amazon.
