Not entirely satisfied with the non locking control cable from Napa, cable housing stretches while trying to engage the winch. So I'm looking for a solid core tee handle cable with a plastic housing about 6' long. Backed off the detent spring so the lever moves easier. I can get it to engage when I push the momentary switch for the motor and push on the engage lever cable while the motor is almost stopped.

Y'all have any suggestions ( PTO, tractor, snow plow, etc tee handle cables with .060 SS cable with plastic housing)

I like the locking one, way better than the Napa flexy cable.

I bought a control cable for a tow truck PTO setup, has a .085" SS center single strand surrounded by a SS spiral wound cable with plastic covering similar to your link. Works great no cable stretch when trying to engage motor. Perfect fix to the weak NAPA/ Herm cables.

Big knob handle is removeable so I plan on machining it to a smaller diameter.

Just picked up this Model 8000 and will follow your build. Wish I could make out the photos you posted though!

Easy to rebuild bought several parts from Mc master carr, bearings, seals from ebay and new motor too other one had oil into from the bad seal at top of case.
I got the bearing info from the Ih8mud forum, ditched the knife switch for a big arse continuous duty solenoid. added a switch up in the grill for controlling the winch when the cable gets near the spool instead of having guess when the cable was in far enough.
The only bearing tough to get out was the one in the blind hole and used a crozier type puller from work to pull it out. save the small spacer located inside for reassembly. Good to hear another saved from the scrap pile being reused. i swapped ends with the steel cable and spooled it up, figured I have 140' of cable for the few times I'll need it. Great winch speed. Oh yeah swapped to a 100 Amp ALT too.
