from August 1975 Four Wheeler Magazine:

    4" long C shackle from 1956 Dodge 1/2 ton pickup, P/N 1311192

Unknown availability now, just posting if someone wanted a 1" lift without changing to H shackles.

These were for sale from JC Whitney forever also. I think Jeep actually used them on some trucks as I have seen several trucks with them.

That could be correct but I never compared them side by side.
Anyways, free information for who ever wants to play with them.

I bought a pair on here years back the guy said they were from a willys truck I thought they were going to be stock height. I needed a normal one for my 2a but ended up putting one on from my bantam trailer and put the lifted ones on there to clear 33s

On my 54 M-170, the rear of the front leafs are getting pretty close to the frame. I'm wondering if I should get a set for the front. The spring arch is probably getting soft. The springs look new, but what the heck, they are older than me and I'm starting to sag a bit. Do you think this would work ??

Kinda sounds like a band-aid but, sometimes that's what we have to do. Sounds like new springs are what is really needed so, replacing the shackles may not help much. A spring over shock absorber would probably do more to help than a longer shackle.

Or maybe a combination of the two. I'm also wondering if I put in new sway bar bushings, if that would help or maybe the sway bar is tired as well. ( shouldn't effect leaf springs though) I will take some weight off of it today and watch the geometry to see how things are moving around under there. It rides great over the rough stuff, but the spring loops are pretty close to the frame.

If the M-170 is set up like the A1, you have reverse shackles on the front. In addition, the ""C" shackles are frenched into the frame and will have the extra brace. If they are frenched in, the shackle will normally appear closer to the bottom side of the frame than you might be used to seeing.

Then again, the springs may well be shot. What is the angle on the C shackle? I was just looking at mine today- the springs are probably original ('54) and looking pretty tired and rusty. I think it's the weight of the Fhead- takes its toll.

I will post a couple of pictures in the next few days. The springs are in great shape rust wise and look to still have enough arch, but I am no expert when it comes to military tin. When I post em up, I would appreciate any info that emerges here.

I know this is an older thread, so, sorry for the necropost and posting in the wrong forum...lol.., but i'm looking at refreshing my CJ5's suspension. I'm unabashedly following TomTom's formula of keeping my rig close to stock height with 31's. (My garage literally won't fit anything bigger...lol)

I'm thinking about Kaiser-willys kit with something like these shackles if I need to go a bit higher. My rig currently has rusty old shocks and very thick spring packs.

I'm carrying quite a bit of weight in the back, so I'll probably stick with a heavier pack, but does anyone else offer a 1" over stock kit?

These U-shackles are for earlier Jeeps, assuming you are working on your '64 Tux. The Tuxes had softer springs than regular CJ5s, so often were lower on ride height. You say you have thick spring packs. How many leaves make up your front springs?
Conventional lift shackles, if kept conservative (an inch or 1 1/2" longer than stock) would possibly help. If you replace your springs, that alone may give you the lift you are looking for.

I have 10 in the front and 9 in the back! I also have U-shackles front and rear. I'm thinking about going with the Kaiser-Willys full OEM suspension refresh first. Complete Suspension Overhaul Kit Fits 55-71 CJ-5

From the comments on Kaiser-willys.com it looks like you can go with either the 5/7 leafs or you can go with 9/10 leafs.

From there I figure I can decide if I need/want any more lift, because like you say, I'm thinking that I might actually sit a bit higher with the new springs since what I'm running is likely sagging.

Right now I fit 31's with zero issues rubbing because of my jackman rims, and all my shocks are blown. I also REALLY don't like dealing with non-stock drivelines, etc. Super easy to find the driveshafts I need if I stay with stock components and lifts, etc. (that's a perk for me.)

How do you have U-shackles on your Jeep ?
You shouldn't unless it's been modified or a flatty frame or ???
    Pictures please.
That kit above is not U shaped shackles.

yeah, I'm finding that out as I go along. I'm looking to move away from them, back to what "should be stock" I have an inkling that I actually have an early CJ5 frame, for which the U-shackles are correct, but someone looked at my serial number and identified it as a 63ish Tuxedo park. (which makes sense, too, since I have more than a few "tux park" parts)
