Bumper Lights

I’m trying to take the license plate lights off the bumper to get the bumper chromed. Can anyone tell me how to remove the lights from the bumper without cutting the wires? I don’t know if this makes a difference but this is the bumper for the continental kit.

 

On that style light you would have to follow the wire to where there is a connector and take it loose there. The lead is built into the socket.

 

My J20 has those type of lights, and I replaced them with LED equivalents. Very nice. It came from the factory with a connector in place for the bumper lights ... but it's a pickup truck. If this is a factory installed continental kit, I would expect to find a connector for the license plate light somewhere upstream in the Jeep.

 

I know its been more than 6 months, but did you get your bumpers rechromed? If so, anywhere local to you, and how did they turn out. No one in Florida wants to rechrome a bumper without me taking out a mortgage to pay for it.

Don, sorry it took so long to respond. Been busy on this end. Yes I did get them rechromed. Living in California makes all that stuff more expensive as I’m sure you know. The guy that does my powder coating told me about a place in Bakersfield that does a good job (assuming you are not going to Pebble Beach car show). He routinely takes customers parts up once a month to be chromed so he took my bumpers up. They came out good. Cost about $850 for front and rear. My rear bumper is the continental so there are more pieces to chrome.
