On the jeep in my avatar 134L T-90 D-18 D-41/25 warn hubs. Dad took the pill out of the transfer case to allow him to better pace Marching bands and such when he would be in parades (he was in the Marion County Sheriffs Reserve Search and Rescue) Then later when I stated driving it in High school he told me I could go any where I could get in 2wd low but when I got stuck we were to put in the Hubs and get out and come home he was coming to get us (good thing cause sometimes we were 300+ miles away!) I drove the crap out of the Jeep we did stuff they either should have made commercials with or put us in Jail. I never so much as damaged a thing in that drive train in 3 years of driving it that way every chance I got.

I'm now building that jeep to suit my current wants. Souped up 134L 9.25" clutch T-90 all new gears and shafts built by one of the leading experts in rebuilding trannys and transfercases (Kaiser Willys and Walcks sell his units as Does Herm) I have the last twin stick large shaft version of the D-18 and I have a Dana 44 30 spline flanged from a 71 CJ-5 with an Eaton E Locker and all new G2 Gears and SKF bearings and a competely rebuilt Dana 25 with really nice Original gears. And I will not be bothering with the interlock pill. But then I'm about 400 HP short of what it would take to break one of them massive rear axle shafts.

I abused mine in 2 low when in high school.
Downtown street area here laid out in 14 blocks, with a stoplight every block.
Friday night stoplight to stoplight drag racing.
I had the F4 back then with D41 and 5.38s, Armstong 11.00 x 15 implement tires on 10" wide steel wheels.
Pretty impressive tire bark when dumping the clutch in 2nd gear and shifting thru all the gears at WOT
...this includes shifting the OD as well.
I always lead the first 75 to 100 yards...just needed one more shift.
Anyways, over summer of abuse, short side axle gave up the ghost and died a hero both times.
Of course I told my dad I was just driving down the road and it just broke.....
And I might be the only one, but years later I had one other short side break backing out of the driveway.
That was my introduction to non-Dana tapered axles.....cheap pieces of crap.

I have a 64 with D18 twin stick. So I understand, I can put the jeep in low range 4wd with the hubs unlocked and not do any damage. I have done this in parades and spraying to keep the speed down.
    Thanks!

I use 2wd a lot on the trails around here. With a locking rear diff I don't use 4wd all that much. There are exceptions though.

So, 2 low vs 4 low with hubs unlocked

Is the point of 2low that you get 100% of your power to the rear and you aren't spinning the insides of the front axle?

Although, if you don't have any resistance in the front axle, are you really robbing any power from the rear (other than slight parasitic loss to the front)?

I always liked the thought of having 2low and plan on removing the pill when I convert to twin stick, but I have been wondering if it's any better than 4low with unlocked hubs

The main difference I see is that you can reach 2LO from the driver's seat. There's no harm to engaging 4WD with the hubs unlocked AFAIK, as long as you shift when not or just barely moving.
