Do the numbers and letters stamped into my early CJ5 frame on the right side just above the front right spring hanger have a known meaning?

I don't think the ones in the very front are serial numbers. They seem to always be letters over a number in a square pattern. I always thought they were some sort of date code for when the frame rail was made.

Date code is what I was told some years ago

No idea how to decode it though

on my 68, both the right front frame rail numbers and the last 6 of body serial number match.

It does sound like he is talking about the ones on the side, especially since he says letters too.

On my frame rails I haven't found any letters in that area, just the numbers stamped in the top/up facing part of the rail. Kaiser vs WO?

I have found hand stamped sequential vin numbers just above the rear spring hanger on the right front and above the axle on top of the frame on the right rear. The numbers at the very front of the frame horn have always appeared to be some sort of date code. I think there is a write-up over on the 3b page about how random Jeep was with places and many of them are off by several numbers on many Jeeps.

This is just three characters in an almost triangle formation about 1/2" tall deep stamps. Nothing like a VIN the frame is at the very newest a 60-61 and more likely a 55-56 it was under the Jeep when dad bought it in 1962 having been put there to replace the original 2A frame that had been busted up while farming.
