Have been talking to Steve (NCRENII) about some wiring diagrams and got to thinking that maybe somebody else might like some drawings that I drew when I was rebuilding my jeep. I thought the ones in the FSM were really hard to read plus I wanted to include some add on items like off road lights, radio, fuse block, etc. so I draw up my own drawings.
    If you go to:

    Index of /JEEP/EARLY CJ5 FILES/WIRINGS DRAWINGS

you can see 2 sets of drawings. One is what I did with my jeep with all the add on's and the other set is just plain like it came from the factory except with a fuse block and new one wire alternator. Each set contains 3 drawings, a body area, dash area and engine area. One thing I tried to do was keep everything as original as possible so in the body and engine area I used the old fire wall connectors, finder terminals, etc. In matter fact on my Jeep I kept the old voltage regulator mounted with the original wires, just they go to nothing next to the alternator. Like I said I wanted to keep everything as original as possible.
If somebody notices some mistakes please let me know, especially on the plain drawings as to make them I just went through my customer drawings and deleted my add on's and I may have missed something or got something wrong. If nothing else about these drawings that somebody might find useful is that is shows the original color of the wires coming out of the turn signal switch and where each color goes. The drawing were made to be printed on 11" x 17" paper in color so I you try to print them on regular paper and black and white and they are not readable just let me know and I will see if I can make some changes to make them more readable in the scale.

    VERY nice.

We should add these to the resource files on ECJ5.

I have a 2 level Korning pto takeoff. The one lever engages the PTO and back output shaft. The other engages the front output shaft to the wrench. The problem is the lever that engages the PTO and back output shaft engage very easy, you can just bump it and it will engage. So what would happen a lot is the lever would get bumped sometimes and the PTO and back output would be running all the time and you would not know it and drive for miles without knowing it. So to indicate this I placed a small switch next to the lever under the floor and connected it to a dash light to show it was engaged. I also added some small lights to show the off road light were on and my added on aux. backup light. Here is a picture showing my set up with the hand switches and small lights. The light on the right is to show the PTO is engaged. The first switch and light is for my off road light, the second is to turn on and show the aux. back up light is on. the third switch is for a cab light I added on my roll bar so I did not need a small light to show it was on. I suppose I should add some labels sometime, but with just me driving I never added the labels.

Mike, I want to thank you again for these drawings. I went nearly blind (not *that* way) perusing 4 sets of schematics I found in the TSM, Haynes, and a couple on the www. Looking your drawings over I was able to confirm the circuits I've been working with getting the 4ways working (internal to the switch issue posted elsewhere) and began to understand the basic circuits.
Out of curiosity, I'm seeing "sourtesy lights" on some schematice. What are thes, and where are they located?
p.s. I just noticed your odometer reads very cose to my jeep!

Would you mean courtesy lights? I don't know about this era Jeeps, but other vehicles they are lights under the dash that light with the dome light, to light your way into the car. Some fancy cars have courtesy lights on the door. At one time it was a thing to install marker lights under the dash of a truck.

Storytime: my brother at one time had an 82 Bronco someone thought they might install them (blue marker lights). They did, but tied them into the ignition for some reason. I saw the factory courtesy lamp connector right there, so reconnected them there.

Yes I did! I have numb fingers (really) and need to proof read. I think I may mess around with the headlight switch by turning it like a dimmer as there is no door switch. Perhap it's an option that is shown on schematics?
