Ok, lets see if I can remember how to do this stuff..

Well, lets see, we fixed the rusted out battery box among other things- I'll be building a better battery box and likely relocating the battery later.

    Patched some cancer...

We repaired the subsequent damage to the fender walls, and built an internal brace that should mitigate or eliminate future issues.

We've done some various powder coating....

invented a shop AC that works really great here in the dry heat of New Mexico

OK, I've got some more updates on the way. We've put a lot of time and effort into building the roll cage for this Jeep, most would say too much time and effort, and it has become a runaway train of a project- but we are soon to see the spoils of our efforts.

I should catch up this thread a bit, I had to go backwards and change out the underside roll cage mounts that I had fabricated. I just hadn't given it adequate thought about how to allow the cab to flex with the body bushings with a stiffened roll cage mounted-

I did just a little research on the internet (I'm embarrassed I hadn't investigated it sooner) and discovered these fix-alls and bought 8 of them so I can keep some handy for future projects.

I did not take many pictures while building these brackets, but rest assured they are much stronger than the frame they are bolted to.

I may have mentioned that I am (about to be full time) a silversmith-tinker-metalsmith, I only mention it because some of my fine scale tools have come in handy for this project. One day very soon I will have a shop large enough to house all of my tools and also have the space to use them.

I've created another thread specifically for the roll cage build- it may hog some of the posts here until we finish that project and get back to painting prep and reconstruction of the jeep.

" 72 Jeep Commando Integrated Roll Cage Project "

Here's a sneak peek at the roll cage project.
