This is part of a much bigger project going on that if I ever finish, i will update.....Its also possible the wagon will just crumble to dust before I am done - or I will have a breakdown. But just liked this picture of the firewall:

Filling in some bolt holes.....Filled in 22 today - have 8 more to go. Plus have five 'cut-out' sections to weld in. The blue tape covers the holes I need to keep....Trying to get the cab insulated from engine noise and heat, and make it more pleasant to ride in.

Mine's been in the garage since May 6th with the axles needing rebuilt. It still needs the TBI sorted out and the 3rd gear synchro replaced.

Sooo,...... On her shake out run ( To a days late Service call ), after ~ 5 miles, I blew a tranny cooler line. Oil blowing everywhere. When I pulled over , my first fear was that it was a blown head gasket . The Service Call I went to is in a series of shops with various Auto mechanics, body mechanics , welders & fabricator's , & others. Good place to be as one guy said he would R & R the 2 lines, with parts, for $ 280 . He did it outside , right in front of the doorway that I was installing a custom interconnected lock on. :bananatool: I lost ~ half of the tranny fluid that it holds, but it shifted well on my home trip of ~ 8 miles . Today....... Back up on the Lift . Thanks be to God

That looks all too familiar. Ethan's pickup needed a ton of firewall repair.

I redesigned my gas fill, I couldn't put the nozzle in the way it was, and when I tried to adjust it the door wouldn't close. So,.... I reinstalled the old insert, only higher. Now to see if I can put gas in the tank.

Rainy day, so I finally got the seat back in the 64 M38A1. What a wrestling match. Now I know why all the old nuts and bolts were in the gas tank well. Dropped a nut in there myself. The threaded tabs were missing and getting a nut started near the filler neck was nearly impossible. Seat mounted all scratches touched up and next I will try to prime the carb to get it to start. Slow but progress!

Soooooooo, New fuel filter & reinstalling the O2 wire into the correct slot on my ECM harness, ( ) Made
for one of the happiest days of my life.
The new FlowKooler WP & 160 Stat have it not getting over 175 degrees , after boosting it a coupla times ; One from a slow roll & the other from outta the hole .

VERY , VERY , VERY happy that all my stressing & tedious work with the new Harness connectors has Paid off in Spades. New LT1 Translator & Maf , EGR delete, Ported TB, & going thru the Entire engine harness , has brought my Hybrid to the ' Velvet Gorilla ' that it was meant to be.
The Scan Tool numbers have never looked & read like they do now......... Prittinear factory perfect across the board.
Ever since owning this Kid,,,,,,,,, There have been Quite a few times where I said I could not have done any better with it ? Man O' Man, was a wrong. upload_2024-8-8_6-39-3.gif

    Here's a pic of one of a least 12 times that I said ' There's the problem ', but alas,,,,,,, NOT :

The Moral to my Story is...... Check , Recheck, & Check again all Harness connectors . This System absolutely wants & demands Tight connections.
,,,,,,, Now that they are renewed, they should hold up well to the CJ rumble........ For my lifetime , anyhow.

    More Pic's to follow.

I Worked on chas'n a Horrible Hidin' electrical short to ground, for 5 weeks. I am now a Self- Taught, Bonafied, Full fledged, Journeyman, GM / CJ5 , Metri-Pak 150 & 280 Wiring repair Expert.
I could not locate ANYONE local to help me . That being said, I will never willing go after this job again, for Nobody. However, I could possibly pass on suggestions & how to knowledge to any & all Brother's ( & Sister's ) -in-Arms here.:)

Soooooooo. , here is some of what I have accomplished , with my repairing my 40 year old wiring harness's ( I knew buying this Rig was gonna be Ok , 'Cuz she was born in Sparks, Nevada : No Salt, Sand, Mud, or even Rain , according to the PO  )
First thing that she needed was this.......... The 40 year old OEM Maf's are purdy much unatainium. This now allows any modern day 3" Delphi Maf to be used . :bananatool:
    A New Translator.jpg

Next was the FlowKooler WP , 160 Stat , a under hood heat moving fan, & Downpipe wrap. This engine loves to run Cooler

    New 90 watt Cooling Fan.jpg DownPipe Wrap.jpg

Then...... onto searching & repairing all bad wires ( as above ) , R& Ring the junk corrugated plastic wire loom wrap & installing new heat resistant cloth type wrap, & installing new harness's @ the ECM & the ICM . ( Sound'n kinda ' Military here , Eh ? ) :ninja: & the EGR Delete.
New Wire loom Heat Wrap.jpg New Custom ICM wiring Box.jpg

New ECM Wiring Harness's.jpg EGR Delete - Complete.jpg

....... After Monday's Shake out run / Almost Catastrophic Day ( Post # 6624 )......... I put the dash back together . Radio was rewired by a neighbor , who wanted to do it cause he was good at it ? He did it on Saturday & He wasn't . Cannot set the Clock & No Sound :( Completed a final IAC / TPS reset ( I know....more Military like jargon, Right ? ) & She's showing the best readings I have ever Seen .

Thanks for Reading here........ & now , let's get to Work :flag:

Well not quite as involved as Lockman, but I managed to fab up some body mount brackets for the rear of the tub on the 74. Gradually getting all the cutting and grinding done, then I can sand blast and primer.(some day). IMG_5854.JPG IMG_5853.JPG

Asking out of ignorance, but is there a benefit to building those mounts rather than buying new ones? I think they're only $10/each. Mine are pretty rotten, so will be replacing soon too. It seems like either built or bought, moisture would still get between the panel and body mount and cause rust.

No reason to make them yourself really, I just happened to have some 1/8 sheet/plate metal scraps so I just drew a layout, cut and bend, welded the seams, took about an hour or so to build and then grind the weld beads smooth to make them look good. Only benefit I could see is the metal is some thicker/heavier duty than the factory crimped ones and there will be no crimp channel down the back of it to trap dirt and moisture, maybe less likely to rust out your tail light panels. Although some dirt/moisture can still likely get in between them, I am just gonna prime them and the back of the tail light panel with with some weld thru primer. The old mounts are spot welded on. I just drilled out the spot welds from the outside. I then can use the old spot weld holes to weld on the new mounts. Then use some seam sealer around the inside edges to help seal them. Here is an internet photo of the lay out part in a metal brake, I just scored mine a little and bent them in my vice. IMG_5784.JPG

    Hey Fella's,
After all fabrication , installs , paint , & finish is done on our projects , sterlclan ( Jeff ) awhile ago , offered us this advice : Spray Fluid Film on every thing underneath . I did it on all my hat channels , seams , bushings , & even inside my boxed sections of the Frame. It's the best stuff available, Made with Lanolin & Biodegradable too. It will even stop any rust that is missed , in the hard to get to spots . Highly Recommended , even by The US Coast Guard. :bananatool:

How often do you need to spray it on, other words will it last for years? Not familiar with it.:study:.

Have heard great things about Fluid Film
I don't, to like the channel in the original mounts holding dirt and moisture. Will fab some of these also. Been on the list for a while.
